Donnie Wahlberg has brought a member of his “Blue Bloods” family to Boston.
The actor shared on Instagram on July 18 that Bridget Moynahan, who played his character’s sister on “Blue Bloods,” will be making an appearance in the premiere of Wahlberg’s new spin-off, “Boston Blue,” which debuts on CBS on Oct. 17.
“Reunited and (it) feels so good!” Wahlberg captioned a photo of him with Moynahan. “So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue! She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season! More fun (and surprises) to come. 👀 Let’s go!”
The “John Wick” actor, 54, played Erin Reagan, the sister of Wahlberg’s Detective Danny Reagan, on the CBS hit “Blue Bloods,” which concluded its 14-season run in 2024.
Wahlberg reprises his role as Danny Reagan in “Boston Blue,” which features his character leaving his position with the New York Police Department and becoming a detective with the Boston Police Department.
The cast also includes Sonequa Martin-Green as Danny Reagan’s partner, Det. Lena Silvers, the oldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
Other “Boston Blue” cast members include Mika Amonsen as Danny Reagan’s son, Sean; Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver; Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver; Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver; and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, according to Deadline.
Wahlberg, 55, was a mainstay on the “Blue Bloods” cast for all 14 seasons. He told People in 2024 he took some of his props and clothes as keepsakes at the end of the show’s run and put them in his family’s fast-food restaurant chain.
“I took my two Danny Reagan costumes — my blue suit and my dress blues,” he said. “I put them on mannequins and put them in a Wahlburgers.”
In an appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna in October 2024, he said the 14 years he spent filming the show “went by in the blink of an eye.”
“It’s really more gratitude. It’s not sad-itude,” he said.
