Grey’s Anatomy’s Original Villain Returns In New Season 22 Winter Trailer qc01

Now, it’s only a week before Grey’s Anatomy season 22 returns for fresh episodes after ending 2025 with a lot of lingering plot lines. That includes Jo seemingly not getting any break, as well as Richard’s own personal struggle. Amid all of this, Grey’s Anatomy is bringing back a familiar face, the show’s original villain — Addison Montgomery.

In a new Grey’s Anatomy season 22 winter trailer released by ABC (via @GreysTvNews), Kate Walsh is back in the Seattle hospital that she once served. Clocking in at just 13 seconds, the snippet of Addison sees her working with Amelia. Watch the video below:

For context, when Addison was first introduced at the end of Grey’s Anatomy season 1, she was presented as the first third party to Meredith and Derek’s romance. As Derek’s first wife, her existence in the series brought tension that almost threatened the budding relationship between the show’s central couple. Not long after, however, Grey’s Anatomy fleshed out her character, eventually making her a beloved member of the cast.

Addison has been back in Seattle a few times since she left to star in her own spinoff, Private Practice. The last time Walsh was on the show was in Grey’s Anatomy season 19. It’s curious what brings her back to the Pacific Northwest, but considering how she is sharing the scene with Amelia, it’s possible that it might be work-related. Caterina Scorsone has been absent in Grey’s Anatomy season 22 for a while now, so it’s great to see her come back to have this collaboration with her former sister-in-law.

According to reports, Walsh will only appear in one episode in Grey’s Anatomy season 22. However, with the door already opened for her, there’s hope that fans will see more of the character moving forward. Luckily, the wait to find out isn’t going to be long, as the medical series is set to return with fresh episodes on January 8, 2026.
