Cork has long been a buzzing holiday spot for famous faces – but this time a Hollywood star is here on business.
Sarah Drew, who achieved fame as Dr. April Kepner in the long-running US hospital drama Grey’s Anatomy , made the trip to Cork last week to start work on World War 2 film Jimmy, a biopic about It’s a Wonderful Life actor Jimmy Stewart.
Jimmy will also star Seinfeld‘s Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer and Riverdale’‘s KJ Apa as Jimmy himself. The movie is currently filming in West Cork, but one cast member found the time to pop over to the seaside yesterday, as Sarah Drew paid a visit to Leonardo’s Kimbo Cafè in Cobh.
Sarah, who played Dr. Kepner on Grey’s Anatomy between 2009 and 2022, happily posed with staff for a snap – and has been sharing her own photos fn her trip to the Rebel County on Instagram.

In Jimmy Sarah will be playing Hedda Hopper, a gossip columnist and actress during Hollywood’s golden age. Hopper was an enthusiastic backer of the anti-communist blacklist in the 1950s, which saw actors and writers scrutinised and barred from working if they were suspected of communist sympathies.
During this period the film It’s a Wonderful Life was investigated by the FBI over its perceived left-wing messaging. The agency was concerned that the 1946 classic “deliberately maligned the upper class, attempting to show the people who had money were mean and despicable characters.”
