Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey recently celebrated a milestone in his family life as his youngest twin sons officially graduated from high school.
On his personal Instagram page, Patrick shared a beautiful family photo, capturing the moment his two sons Sullivan and Darby in their bachelor’s gowns, standing between mom Jillian and dad Patrick. Under the photo, he proudly wrote: “So proud of my boys and can’t wait to see where this next chapter of their lives takes them!”
Darby also reposted the photo on his personal page, along with the caption that he “couldn’t have asked for a better senior year.” Along with it was a collection of photos, including a photo with his sister Talula and a moment when Darby received his diploma on stage.
Both brothers graduated from Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, California. Older sister Talula, 22, was also there to celebrate, commenting on the family post with a series of hand emojis expressing her excitement. Mom Jillian couldn’t hide her pride, calling Darby her “little baby.”
Meanwhile, Sullivan also shared a friend’s post on Instagram Stories, in which he stood with a group of girls on the school’s steps, creating a fun and meaningful moment.
Patrick once shared with People magazine about how he raised his children: “Each child has their own unique qualities and personal goals that they need to discover and develop. We just try to lead by example so that they can learn. They need to learn how to interact with the world around them, learn to set limits, and make mistakes. And we will always be there to help them learn from those experiences.”
Patrick and Jillian Fink married in 1999. Although Jillian filed for divorce in 2015, they reconciled and annulled the proceedings after 22 months, continuing to live together for more than two decades.
Before becoming a big star, Patrick was a teenage actor, but it was not until 2002 that he really became famous when he played Reese Witherspoon’s boyfriend in the movie Sweet Home Alabama.
In 2005, he joined the main cast of Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Derek Shepherd, also known as “McDreamy.” Along with co-stars Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, and many others, Patrick contributed to the show’s huge success.
In the series, Derek Shepherd is the love interest of Dr. Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo). The show follows Meredith’s career from being a surgical intern to becoming the hospital’s chief of general surgery. Patrick Dempsey played the role for 10 years, before his character died in a car accident in 2015, after being married to Meredith and having two children together, and Meredith was pregnant with her third child when Derek died.
