The latest trailer for Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy finally reveals the harrowing aftermath of Season 21’s explosive finale. Luckily, the medical hit show will also be back soon.
The clip shows the doctors trying to find one another and other patients as they realize some people might not make it out of the flames alive. The trailer starts with Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith watching from outside. Although the police don’t want to allow her to enter the building, nothing is stopping her from getting in and helping.
Created by television icon Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy premiered back in 2005 and immediately cemented itself as a major medical drama hit. The series stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey alongside an ensemble cast led by Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, and Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt (after joining the cast in Season 5). In the past 20 years, Grey’s Anatomy has amassed a staggering 448-episode (and counting) run, as well as numerous spinoffs and three international adaptations of the series to date.
While Jenna was taken into custody by the end of the episode, it was revealed that the supposedly empty tank she had stolen was in fact filled with the highly flammable gas. This resulted in a massive explosion that occurred far enough from the incident that led to it for multiple staff members to be caught in the blast, completely unaware that any real danger was still present within the walls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
What Will Ellen Pompeo’s Role Be in Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy?
Despite being one of the few remaining original cast members and the series’ original protagonist, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has been a less prominent player in more recent seasons of the show. Back in September, Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis confirmed that the current trajectory of Pompeo’s Meredith Grey has indeed resulted in her spending less time in front of the cameras. However, that likely won’t be the case for much longer.
“Well, she’s definitely splitting her time between Boston and Seattle. But hopefully, we’ll get to see her in Seattle more,” Marinis stated before adding that, if things go according to plan, audiences will “get to see her in the O.R. and interacting with our characters more frequently.”
