In a candid interview Gordon Ramsay’s wife, Tana, says she still feels guilty about having a miscarriage eight years ago.
Tana (49) who has kids Megan (26), twins Jack and Holly (24), Matilda (22), Oscar (5) and Jesse (8 months) – spoke about her pregnancies and the complications that led to her miscarriage in 2016 on the Postcards from Midlife podcast.
When she had Megan, her pregnancy was trouble-free but there were complications when she was pregnant with the twins, she said.
“I had a thrombosis [which occurs when blood clots block your blood vessels] and I started bleeding at about 14 weeks, so that was very scary,” the presenter and author told Lorraine Candy and Trish Halpin on the podcast.
Despite this the twins were born healthy and just two years later they had a surprise arrival – Matilda.
“I got pregnant and didn’t realise,” she said. “In fact, I was nearly four and a half months pregnant before I realised.”
Five months into her pregnancy with Rocky in 2016 she miscarried and Tana said she still suffers guilt about it.
“Should I have known something? Should I have done something differently?” she said.
Gordon has said that even though the tragedy was devastating, it created a bond.
“It could happen at any time to anyone and it brought us all so much closer,” he shared.
Tana said it was hard to feel excited about Oscar’s arrival while she was still grieving for Rocky.
“I think it was the guilt that I didn’t think I felt enough about Rocky because I’ve been excited with a new baby,” she said.
Then welcoming baby Jesse at 48, Tana admitted she was even more worried, but he’s brought the family nothing but joy.
“There’s a bit of Rocky in Jesse and it’s kind of made us all feel whole again,” she said.
Having children of different ages comes with its own challenges, she added.
“I used to be the youngest mom at the school gate and now I’m the oldest, but it doesn’t really stand out. There are many older moms, and I think we’re all a bit more relaxed.”
