Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars season 2 episode 8: Explored

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars season 2 episode 8, titled Breakfast Bootcamp, aired on Fox on July 17, 2024. The previous episode, i.e. episode 7, featured Team Vanderpump winning and ending up in the double elimination of Kyson Clark and Rose Hankins.

There are only seven participants left on Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars season 2. They include Jess, Erica, Nicholas, and Roman from Team Vanderpump and Liz, Ali, and Andrew from Team Ramsay.

The contestants were at the breakfast cafe for their next challenge. As they were being served the “proper English breakfast,” they also learned shocking news. They would be working as a team in this challenge. Similarly, they all would be present at The Grilling by the end of the episode.

According to the next challenge, the participants will run a breakfast service on the next day. They will cover both Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) services. They will be working at The Savoy Grill, which, according to Gordon, is:

“One of the most iconic dining rooms anywhere in the world.”

He also mentioned that he has been at Savoy for over 20 years.

Contestants and their duties

Andrew became the team leader for Back of House service, and Roman and Ali stayed at BOH. However, Nicholas opted to be in FOH, even though he has experience working in the kitchen.

When Andrew mentioned that Nicholas’s kitchen experience would be beneficial, however, Nicholas wanted to showcase his other skills. Nicholas said:

“Does that affect other people? Well, maybe it’s time some other people move around as well.”
Liz and Erica also opted for FOH. They decided that Jess would be suitable since she doesn’t cook. But she was given a role in BOH instead.

Participants were up by 2 a.m. as the “Breakfast” was mere hours away. Gordon was quite worried about this challenge. He stated:

“Because if this goes wrong, it’s in my house, and that is going to upset me.”
On the other hand, contestants were also worried and in shock about working in “The Savoy Grill,” a five-star restaurant.

Thierry Tomasin, the restaurant director, gave FOH staff a quick crash course in five-star service. Executive Chef Ronnie Kimbugwe trained BOH staff. As a team leader, Andrew was responsible for coordinating between chefs and FOH.

The kitchen staff will learn to make various dishes. These include English breakfast, pancakes, French toast with roasted peaches, smoked salmon, caviar, Eggs Benedict, and more.

The tasks were given as follows:

Roman: Full English breakfast

Ali: Smoked salmon

Jess: French toast

Andrew: Eggs Benedict and Pancakes

Lisa and Gordon came by for breakfast while the team was at The Savoy. Gordon mentioned how the French toast was soggy, and the sausage was cold. He immediately went to the kitchen and said:

“This is awful.”

While the team members were expected to handle around 40 customers during 2 hours of breakfast, Lisa and Gordon expected a five-star experience. However, the first order started with issues. The peaches were too hard. Gordon went back to the kitchen and told Jess about it.

When there were more orders, one of the orders was given at the wrong table. Gordon was not happy about how things were turning out. Andrew was scolded by Thierry for the wrong table order.

In the dining room, Erica and Liz bumped into each other, which Lisa and Gordon witnessed from a distance. Things were not good for Liz when guests pointed out that they didn’t get the normal standards of service that they had expected.

Later, Liz dropped a napkin and picked it up to polish the cutlery. Seeing this, not only Lisa and Gordon but Thierry were shocked. He told Liz to re-set the table.

Disasters in Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars season 2 episode 8

There was an order for meat and “dairy-free” English breakfast, which meant no Eggs. However, Nicholas forgot to mention that on the ticket. So, Nicholas and Thierry served the breakfast with eggs. The customer refused to eat eggs and scolded them for serving the wrong breakfast order.

When Nicholas blamed the kitchen staff for the incident, Ali said that there was no mention of “no eggs.”

By the end, there were only 15 minutes left to serve; customers were still waiting for their breakfast. One of the tables awaited almost 25 minutes, and that resulted in a “poor service” review. Three more tables were not served any breakfast and left the restaurant.

Lisa told Ramsay “to play nice” before the contestants arrived. When the participants reached, Gordon started by describing the team efforts as:

“S**t show.”

Gordon told Andrew that he (Andrew) was responsible for many things that went wrong. He also told Jess about her mistakes. Roman was also at fault. Nicholas had to listen to his “ticket mistake” regarding the egg-less breakfast order. Liz was scolded for her napkin incident.

As a result, Liz Aust and Nicholas Ducos were eliminated from Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars season 2. While Liz shared:

“It’s been the wildest, most fun ride of my life.”

Nicholas said:

“I’ve learned so much about myself. I’ve learned so much about how I’m going to pursue business going forward. I’m so grateful for the opportunity. This is life-changing, either way.”
The episode ended with Gordon congratulating the 5 finalists.
