Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Episode 2: Gordon is ’embarrassed’ by his team as the first challenge gets underway and someone is eliminated
Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars has only just begun, but things are heating up fast.
With a life-changing $250,000 on the line, plus a 12-month mentorship, the teams will work with the biggest names and most famous brands on the planet to make their dreams become a reality.
In Episode 2, the teams go head-to-head in the first of many grueling challenges. The losing team face an “embarrassing” grilling, and the first contestant is sent home.
It’s a tough battle ahead, or as host Gordon Ramsay puts it: “Who’s going to sh-t the bed first?”
Challenge 1: The battle begins
Gordon and Janine Allis are waiting at the heart of Melbourne’s sport precinct, AMMI Park, and the chef’s patience is already wearing thin.
“Can they walk any slower? Let’s go!” Gordon yells. Guess it’s called Food Stars not Sports Stars, Gordon.
The teams make pace and here comes a Chiko Roll by drone. Their task? To take a nostalgic snack to a whole new level.
“These iconic Chiko chicks have been the face of the brand for decades,” Janine begins.
The teams have 24 hours to redesign the poster and reposition the brand, while providing a fresh twist to the famous roll.
“They better be good”, Gordon says.
And the pressure is on because the teams will be feeding the entire stadium live at half time.
Tensions boil over in Team Gordon
The teams race to the boarding room to brainstorm ideas. Team Gordon have some excellent chefs on hand, including Madonna’s own personal chef Pia
“I expect her to own it,” Gordon vows.
With her chef hat on, Pia pitches the idea of a triple cheese Chiko to her team. Done! As for the poster design, Renae – the creator of Sh-t The Bed hot sauce, is taking the reigns.
“It’s a snack for me, so let’s stick to men,” Renae confidently shares her spiel.
But not everyone was sold. Plant-based baklava creator, Christiana, argues to be more inclusive.
“I don’t want to be too woke,” Renae cringed.
Like Christiana, Ethan’s worry was that they were missing the mark but he is instantly shut down by Renae. “Stick to food, mate,” she dismissed him.
As they come up with a tagline things get progressively worse.

Sophie takes the lead on Team Janine
On paper, Team Janine were looking not so promising.
“I’ve got vegans and a dog food guy,” Janine laughs. “If you [Gordon] don’t win this, something is wrong.”
But Janine has Sophie on her team, who the mentor’s dubbed “a young Janine Allis in the making”.
“This is Sophie’s wheelhouse,” Janine beams.
Team Gordon present their ’embarrassing’ idea
Deciding the winner of the challenge is Katie Saunders, the general manager of marketing for Chiko.
She’s looking for a shift in branding – a shift away from the ‘Chiko chick’ of the 70s. Don’t hold your breath, Katie, because we don’t think Team Gordon got the brief…
Renae and Aaron present their team’s triple cheese roll: “That’s what cheese said”.
Gordon can’t believe what he’s hearing.
“We’re trying to get away from the sexual innuendos,” Janine slams. “Yet where he’s holding the Chiko roll is not exactly the most appropriate place to hold one…”

Team Janine sell the dream
Representing Team Janine is Sophie and Danny. Their product and poster is SO impressive, it leaves Gordon sweating.
“Oh f–k,” Gordon panics.

“Do they want to come and work for me?” Katie is blown away.
Before you know it, half-time is called and the teams have just 15 minutes to dish out 500 rolls. Team Gordon are scrambling and failing to work as a team.
Trays are dropped, F-bombs are dropped and personalities are clashing hard. Gordon gives a blunt but honest pep talk.
“I chose you for a reason, stop worrying about egos and focus on 500 Chiko rolls,” he commands.
Julie cracks the whip but with half-time finished, it’s game over for Gordon’s Team as Team Janine win by landslide.
Team Gordon face the heat
As losers of the challenge, Team Gordon will face the season’s first grilling.
“First of all, I’m pissed,” Gordon announces. Yep, this isn’t going to end well. The chef slams his team for missing the brief.
“OK tagline… Janine, I’m embarrassed,” he continues.
Troy speaks up and calls their campaign “sexist and cringey”. Janine addresses the “phallic” positioning of the roll and Renae stars sniggering.
“I’m telling you now, I do not find this funny,” Gordon grills.
Alas, Gordon must make a decision and sends Renae home.
“In business, you can’t work with a problem, sorry Renae we’re done,” Gordon’s words like an awful break-up.
