Gordon Ramsay Says This Popular Menu Item Is a Red Flag—Here’s Why You Should Never Order It

Gordon Ramsay revealed the one menu item you should reconsider ordering. It’s something that’s often offered up at restaurants as a starter – but it may not be as appetising as it actually sounds.

The Michelin-star chef urges people not to order “soup of the day”. That’s because it’s often comprised of leftover ingredients that have been blitzed up just before they go out of date.

This tactic prevents food waste and helps restaurants to drum up their profits at the same time. Gordon told Town & Country: “Ask what yesterday’s soup du jour was before today’s special. It may be the case that it’s the soup du month.”

The celebrity chef isn’t the only one to warn against “dish of the day” menu items, either. Marketing and psychology expert Basia shared similar advice in a viral TikTok video.

Basia revealed that “specials” are anything but. In actual fact, they tend to be made up of ingredients that restauranteurs want to shift.

For example, if people don’t order enough steak and the meat is going bad, chefs will think of a way to put the pricey ingredient into a new dish before it spoils.
