Golden Bachelor’s Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner open up about their arguments before sudden divorce

Fans weren’t surprised by the news, but Gerry’s family was
Gerry, 72, and his short-term wife Theresa, 70, announced their divorce after only being married for three months.

They got engaged on the Golden Bachelor in November 2023 after he chose to give Theresa his final rose.

The couple revealed their plans to split on Good Morning America on Friday morning.

However, three weeks before this announcement, they appeared on the Dear Shandy Podcast to discuss their relationship.

Gerry's father Everett was surprised when their split was announced

In a portion of the podcast, the hosts of the show Sharleen and Andy asked the ex-couple how they fight.

Theresa said, “We yell and scream and say sorry and we’re better for it.”

Gerry described their arguments as “intellectual jousting to start with.”

He said, “Point, counterpoint, and then it’ll accelerate a little bit and we’ll start looking at each other like, ‘Really? I’m totally right.’”

The hosts also asked who said they were sorry first, and Gerry admitted that Theresa was better at apologizing than he was.

“She’s pretty good at knowing when this isn’t important,” he said.

After some self-reflection, Gerry said that both he and Theresa need to forget about being right and focus on “finding the compromise area.”

He then revealed that his second career was as a mediator for court cases and divorces, but “sometimes that training is counterproductive with a spouse,” he said as Theresa shook her head up and down.

Although he tried to be detached and unemotional during the arguments, he couldn’t help but be emotional.

But, he wouldn’t admit that he’s more emotional than Theresa.

ARE WE SURPRISED?
In the comment section of the podcast’s YouTube video, a viewer asked, “Anyone else here on the day they announced their Golden Divorce?!”

In the replies, a user said, “I had a feeling it was coming based on this interview. Them not living together was revealing.”

“This interview felt so off to me. It didn’t feel like newlyweds having a love fest,” added another.

A third replied, “I actually didn’t leave a comment the day this video was posted because I had a sick-to-my-stomach feeling after watching it that they were headed for a break-up.”

Another user wrote, “Agree that this interview felt extremely uncomfy. Sounds trivial, but even the contrast in the foods they would choose as a last meal concerned me.”

Even though viewers online weren’t surprised about the Golden Divorce, family members close to Gerry and Theresa were still blindsided.

The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed Gerry’s dad Everett, 92, was “surprised” by the divorce.

Everett and Gerry’s stepmother Peggy were blindsided and didn’t know about the split until they started receiving phone calls about the news.

On Friday, when he spoke to The U.S. Sun, he hadn’t talked to Gerry.
