Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner’s act of kindness backfires prompting ‘shame on you’

Gerry Turner took a wholesome trip to his local nursing home where he “brought smiles” to the residents – but some fans have their reservations.

It appears Gerry Turner just can’t do anything right in the eyes of some fans – even if it is visiting the elderly at a nursing home.

The first-ever Golden Bachelor took a trip to his local nursing home earlier this week where he attempted to brighten up the day of some of its residents.

Gerry, who tied the knot with Theresa Nist in January 2024, posted a series of snaps from his wholesome day out on Instagram as he posed with some of the elderly ladies and he also shared a sweet note one of them appeared to have given him.

Gerry visited his local nursing home

The note read: “Thank you so much for coming in and spending the afternoon with us. Our residents and staff enjoyed meeting you and enjoyed learning about your experiences on the bachelor.

“You brought so much joy and even more smiles to our faces. Some are still talking about it to this day! Thank you for taking the time we will certainly remember that day forever!”

While the snaps Gerry shared with his ever-growing following on Instagram didn’t appear to be anything to kick up a fuss about it seems his caption did.

Alongside the carousel post, the former restauranteur penned: “This week I spent an afternoon at a local Nursing Home. The experience was PRICELESS.

“It brought smiles to about 35 faces that looked like they hadn’t seen a good day in years. They loved it and it did my soul a lot of good as well. No one should be invisible regardless of age.”

The message didn’t sit well with user @lucyelastic, who fumed: “‘It brought smiles to 35 faces that haven’t seen a good day in years’? Are you kidding me? How pompous of you to say that.

“Who do you think you are! Remember that you aren’t much younger than these lovely ladies. Celebrity has gone to your head!”

“You said the residents looked like they hadn’t had a good day in years, which implies that they are not well cared for and are not made to be content. Shame on you!!”

It didn’t take long for some of Gerry’s devoted fans to jump to his defense, with @eleyendeea pointing out: “@lucyelastic If you can’t say something nice better to say nothing at all! Keep your unkind thoughts to yourself. Thank you. Have a blesses day.”

Another @lastingerchalker said: “Why not visit a nursing home? Some folks have no family or visitors. It can be a very depressing place. I’m sure they were happy to see him!”

As fan @eleyendeea shared: “@lucyelastic I have no mean comments for Gerry. He is a kind man and he did a kindness by visiting those residents at that nursing home. So sorry you were offended. He meant no disrespect to the residents or the staff caring for them. I’m not a hater of him like you apparently are.”
