Meet Gerry – The Golden Bachelor
The first-ever Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, first stunned fans with his jaw-dropping good looks before setting foot on set.
Now, as the show begins to heat up, the grandfather-of-two is turning heads with his outlook on dating after the death of his beloved wife.
The 72-year-old spoke to People during a set visit before the show’s first group date, with Gerry joined by the 22 women battling it out for his affections.
Speaking about compatibility, the ABC star revealed he hasn’t ruled anyone out yet simply because he doesn’t view “red flags” as a necessarily bad thing.
He candidly explained he tries to stay “open-minded” about the woman he’s courting even if the signs of danger keep popping up as he hopes it turns into something completely different.
Gerry shared: “Something may look like a red flag on its surface, but when you explore it a little bit further, you might find that it’s not a problem at all.”
This being said, the senior single assured fans he’s not entirely without his biases as he does have a few no-gos in the world of romance.
The first of which is smoking which he declared is an absolute deal breaker for him.
Smoking seemed to be the only thing he was adamant about as he added a “serious geographical obstacle” would cause some problems but he’s not even sure if it’s a total deal breaker.
While the Indiana native was reluctant to recognize red flags, he has a number of qualities he sees as green flags in a potential partner.
A “sense of humor” ranks very highly for the eligible bachelor, especially if they’re able to “laugh at themselves” as well as strong family values that rival his own connections to his two adult daughters and their children.
Ultimately, Gerry feels “compatibility” means if he’s doing something it might take him off the right track, his partner can “bring me down” and redirect him while he can do the same for her.
