Newly crowned Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos has made a major shake up to the dating show, as she takes a major feature “off the table.”
With viewers eager to see how the romance unfolds on the series, Vassos – who recently made her Broadway debut and dropped a bombshell during her appearance on The View has made it clear that there will be no intimate actions as she made changes to The Fantasy Suites.
The Fantasy Suites see Vassos able to spend time overnight away from the others and off camera, with the secret dates typically seeing contestants sleeping together in the past.
However Vassos has removed beds from The Fantasy Suites, meaning there will be no chance of intimacy for her future dates.
Speaking during an appearance on The View, Vassos explained: “For me, I would never have a physical relationship with more than one person. “[It’s] just not a thing I would do.”
However she added that she still wanted to go on dates to The Fantasy Suites as she explained “there is a lot of value being able to talk to somebody without cameras.”
The 61-year-old opened up on the ABC talk show as she said: “I said, ‘I want to do Fantasy Suites, but I don’t want to have a bed in there. And I’m taking that off the table.”
She added: “I’m not judging anybody else, the way they did it. Just for me, that was the right way to do it.”
This isn’t the first time the subject of sleeping has been addressed on the reality dating show.
In the past, Zach Shallcross made a similar decision during his Bachelor season with a ‘no sex’rule for overnight dates.
However the celibacy rule backfired on him, after he changed his mind resulting in an emotional fall out on the show.
However things worked out happily in the end for Season 27 with Shallcross meeting his fiancée Kaity Biggar.
Vassos has also changed another major part of the Bachelor series, as she reveals she doesn’t expect a proposal at the end of the series.
She revealed: “At this age, it takes a little time to get to know somebody. Sometimes there’s love at first sight, and sometimes you need more time.
“I was looking for a committed relationship, somebody I was going to leave this journey with to see how it would work in the real world. Like, let’s date.”
Golden Bachelorette suitors have also opened up on the sleeping arrangements on the dating show, which are said to be harsh conditions as candidates sleep in bunk beds in a dormitory style set up which is not easy with demanding filming schedules.
Alongside the sleeping set up,, Vassos and her suitors also had to get used to the long filming schedule.
“The days are long, and they go into nights. You start at 7 or 8 o’clock in the morning and sometimes we don’t get home until 2 a.m.,” Vassos said.
As they did with The Golden Bachelor, producers shot fewer hours a day than on the flagship series, and keep dates and activities localized.
Though her normal bedtime is between 10 and 11 p.m., Vassos said she’s currently getting by on about five hours of sleep a night.
She revealed: “As long as I’m up and moving during the day, I do okay. But if I sit down for 10 minutes, I’m dead.
