Theresa Nist, who captured the heart and hand of Gerry Turner to win the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor, is looking on the bright side after the couple announced their divorce. The septuagenarian couple decided to split just months after walking down the aisle, having never agreed on a place to live and, seemingly, not living together as a result. Still, Nist has no regrets.
“To everyone who has expressed love, support, and kindness to me I thank you from the bottom of my heart….For everyone else who is confused and angry and who does not understand, please try to find it in your heart to understand and to try a little kindness,” Nist wrote on Instagram on Monday, April 15. She called the relationship “one of the most incredible experiences of my life” and admitted that she “truly thought it was going to last forever. It turns out, even at the age of 70, you don’t know everything.”
Nist acknowledged her fellow contestants and the producers of the series that brought her together with Turner, which kinda makes me wonder if she’s gearing up to be the Golden Bachelorette. Those warm feelings seem to be mutual, with Nist’s fellow contestants (mostly) wishing both her and Turner happiness. “I am eternally grateful to have gotten to know Gerry and Theresa and to have been a small part of their journey. I learned a lot about life, love, and family watching and talking with them. Wishing them and their families both nothing but happiness,” shared host Jesse Palmer. Aw, if only the 20-something Bach folks could be this mature.
The mom of two ended her message on a hopeful note, telling followers, “I ask you to please stay open to all the experiences, opportunities, and love that may come your way. Keep smiling, keep laughing… I will. I love you all.”
