Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner’s daughter has condemned the ‘level of rage and cruelty’ of fans following her father and Theresa Nist’s divorce news.
Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner’s daughter has broke her silence about the response to her father and Theresa Nist’s divorce announcement and she’s more than just displeased.
Gerry’s daughter Angie weighed in on the backlash her family has received following the news in a new Instagram post on Wednesday.
While she understands that many might be upset, it was horrible to experience others’ hurtful comments.
She wrote: “It’s no surprise the news of my Dad and Theresa choosing to split has sparked a range of emotions and opinions.”
“I love how invested people were in the show, what an experience to have you along for the ride!” she wrote. “What has been disheartening is the level of rage and cruelty that our family has been met with.”
“My Dad and Theresa are kind, good people that made this decision for them, no one else,” she continued. “I kindly urge everyone to remember that behind every story, there are real people with real feelings.”
Angie went to thank fans who have supported both her family and Theresa, 70, amid the divorce, saying: “To all those that have chosen to show my dad, Theresa and our family love and compassion…Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The post also included a quote which read: “Everything always works out in the end.”
Gerry and Theresa cited distance as their main issue and the unwillingness to move from their respective states – Gerry in Indiana and Theresa in New Jersey.
During their shocking interview on Good Morning America, where they revealed their split, Gerry said: “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”
“The things that strike me the most in our conversations it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families. So, we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart,” he explained.
“I still love this person, there’s no doubt in my mind. I root for her every day.”
Theresa acknowledged that they have a prenuptial agreement in place and plan on returning their wedding rings, which is a rule in Bachelor Nation.
“I think that’s the rule, I think I have to give this ring back. Sad to say,” she shared, with Gerry adding: “But, you know what, we don’t have to give back the memories.”
Everyone has given their opinions on the bombshell divorce since the announcement but fans were the most angry over the split, calling the first season of the ABC show a “waste of time” because of it.
Former Bachelor Nation stars have also given their two cents, including Golden Bachelor contestant Maria Trice, who has claimed she “dodged a bullet,” fan-favorite Susan Noles, who tried to explain what happened between the pair, and Faith Martin, who just wants to see the couple happy.
However Tyler Cameron has given one of the most brutal opinions about the divorce.
The Bachelorette star didn’t hold back his thoughts on the scandal during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen aired on April 18.
“Shame, shame, shame,” he declared. “Because they’re supposed to be setting the standard of what we’re supposed to find. And they didn’t make it happen. Canceled.”
He continued to say that the divorce “put a stain on love and Bachelor Nation because it was the most wholesome. And then they just pulled the rug right out from under us.”
