An insider close to Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist predicted that the couple “was never going to work” months before marriage.
Just three months after their wedding on The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have decided to divorce.
A source close to the former couple told PEOPLE that the marriage was troubled from the start, noting, “It was never going to work. They never lived together and have been fighting since right after the wedding.”
On April 12, Gerry, 74, and Theresa, 70, shared in a joint interview on Good Morning America their decision to dissolve their marriage.
Despite their enduring affection for each other, they acknowledged that the logistics of their relationship made it impractical to continue.
Gerry had shared with PEOPLE his hopes of moving to Charleston, South Carolina, seeing it as a sign of fate, especially since Theresa’s son lived nearby.
“One of the things that I think fate played a hand in is the possibility of where we might wind up living,” he said.
The couple even searched for homes in Charleston, but they never finalized their plans.
“We looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Theresa reflected.
Gerry and Theresa tied the knot after the premiere season of The Golden Bachelor on ABC in 2023, with their January 2024 wedding broadcast live, featuring appearances by notable alumni from Bachelor Nation such as Trista and Ryan Sutter and Wells Adams.
During the ceremony, Gerry promised Theresa, “I promise to shout the ‘I love yous’ by day, and whisper them softly at night. I promise to keep you safe. And I promise to make you feel comforted in difficult times and abundantly joyful in great times.”
