A source close to the former Golden Bachelor couple has come out claiming Gerry thought Theresa Was ‘uppity’ following separation.
ABC’s reality dating series, The Golden Bachelor, promised a fresh perspective on love with its older cast, but it seems the franchise’s familiar pitfalls have caught up with its stars, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist.
The couple, who married during a televised special in January, have announced their decision to divorce.
Despite presenting a united front during interviews, the reality seems less rosy.
“We still love each other,” during a recent PEOPLE interview.
However, insiders and observers tell a different story, highlighting incompatibilities that became apparent post-show.
Gerry, 72, a retiree from Petersburg, Indiana, and Theresa, still active in her financial services career, faced “a hurdle,” Gerry explained on the Dear Shandy podcast.
“The difficult part is, I’ve been retired for a long time. I wanted fun, adventure. So that is the crux of it, right now, is – when does that start?”
Further tensions arose over lifestyle choices.
On Reality Life With Kate Casey, host Kate Casey discussed an insider tip-off.
“He’s saying he wanted the divorce because she was too ‘uppity for him’ and used the example of she wouldn’t pump her own gas and hated where he lived,” Kate relayed.
The couple admitted to struggling with long-distance relationship dynamics and were unable to agree on a place to settle, despite considering homes in New Jersey and South Carolina.
“We didn’t want to be far away from our families,” Theresa stated during a Good Morning America interview.
Ultimately, Gerry filed for divorce in Indiana earlier this month.
