Gina Rodriguez plays a lawyer in “Will Trent” season 3, how is this role different from her previous roles?

The sequel to ABC’s hit cop series Will Trent is officially in production, and we’ve got our first look at Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba, a series regular on the brand new series. Alba will be played by Gina Rodriguez, who shared a glimpse of her character on social media. Will Trent was an instant hit with fans when it debuted on ABC in January 2023, and midway through Season 2, the show was picked up for a third season. The show focuses on the titular special agent, played by Ramón Rodríguez, who uses his experiences growing up in the foster care system to solve crimes with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Rodriguez’s character was announced following the Season 2 finale, which saw Trent and Angie’s romance hit a snag. This has led to speculation that Alba could be the Agent’s next romantic interest. The official character details describe Alba as “a confident, charismatic Assistant District Attorney new to Atlanta.” When we meet Alba in Season 3, her character will anger Trent after a rocky initial meeting. However, they’ll have to overcome that bad first impression as they team up “to investigate a crime in the Atlanta gang world.”

Photos shared on Rodriguez’s Instagram show the actress posing for a selfie with Ramon, Erika Christensen, who plays Angie Polaski, and Iantha Richardson, who plays Faith Mitchell. The cast members appear to be having fun on set of the upcoming season, as they’re all smiles. “I’ll leave this here. #WILLTrent @willtrentabc,” the actress wrote in the caption.

With Trent and Angie officially breaking up last season, Trent will be nursing a broken heart and may even want to build something with someone else. Trent’s relationship with Angie has been well received by fans, who are hoping that next season will offer the pair a chance to mend their ways. Any potential threat to their relationship would incite hatred towards whoever is responsible, and given the current state of affairs, it’s likely that character could be Alba.

Fans familiar with the books know that sooner or later, Trent’s romance with Angie, no matter how exciting, will fizzle out, as Sara Linton is his ultimate target. However, before the character is introduced to the series, Trent may be romantically involved with other people. In an interview with TV Line, executive producers Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen were asked about Trent’s next romantic interest, and Helden responded, “I think the door is open for someone new to come into his life. We have to talk about that, and we have to talk about that with ABC—like, there’s a logistical question here: Do we want to bring the end goal in right now? Or is it exciting to find someone else [at this time]? We have to be careful about that. We have to be careful about what [introducing Sara would do] to the ecosystem of the show. We have to be thoughtful about that.” “We both knew that [Sara] was Will’s ultimate goal in the [Karin Slaughter] books,” Thomsen added. “At this point in Will’s life, I don’t know if he’s ready for that, and there’s still a lot of room to explore in other directions.”
