Gina Rodriguez has been cast as a series regular in the upcoming third season of ABC’s drama “Will Trent.”
She will portray Marion Alba, a new assistant district attorney in Atlanta. Described as “charismatic and confident,” Alba’s first meeting with Will Trent, played by Ramón Rodriguez, does not go smoothly. However, the two soon find themselves teaming up to investigate a crime involving Atlanta gangs.
Rodriguez is well-known for her leading role in “Jane the Virgin,” a popular CW drama that aired from 2014 to 2019. More recently, she starred in ABC’s sitcom “Not Dead Yet” and continues to host the game show “Lucky 13 ” on the same network.
Her film credits include notable roles in Miranda July’s “Kajillionaire,” Catherine Hardwicke’s “Miss Bala,” and Alex Garland’s “Annihilation.”
She has also appeared in several Netflix projects, such as “Players,” “Spy Kids: Armageddon,” and “Someone Great.” Rodriguez is represented by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
“Will Trent” centers on a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who has the highest clearance rate in the bureau despite being abandoned at birth and raised in the Atlanta foster care system.
The series stars Ramón Rodriguez, Sonja Sohn, Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, and Jake McLaughlin. It is based on Karin Slaughter’s book series of the same name, with Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen serving as co-showrunners and executive producers. 20th Television is the studio behind the series.
