When Season 5 of Ghosts rolls around, fans may finally be getting an answer to one of the show’s biggest remaining questions. One of the series’ co-showrunners recently talked about what the new season may have in store.
Per TVLine, Ghosts co-showrunner Joe Wiseman revealed that fans may finally get the answer to how Sas, the Native American from the 1500s who appears on the hit CBS sitcom, died. The question will “very likely” be answered. “We’re not promising, but it is something we’ve talked about a lot,” Wiseman shared. “It does seem like every season, we reveal some of the big mysteries — what their powers are, and how they died — and as you mentioned, I think the last one is Sas’ death, so… probably.“
The character of Sas, also known as Sasappisu is portrayed by Román Zaragoza on the supernatural sitcom. Sas is a member of the Lenape Tribe that occupied the Hudson Valley in New York and parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut. Not much is known about the ghost’s backstory or death at this time, despite having appeared in all four seasons of the show.
Ghosts is adapted for CBS from the original British series of the same name by Wiseman and Joe Port, with both serving as showrunners. It premiered on the network in 2021 and has been a ratings hit for its four seasons. It recently finished airing Season 4 in May, with CBS already renewing it for both Season 5 and Season 6.
Ghosts stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Sam and Jay Arondekar, two married New Yorkers who believe they’ve found their dream home when they inherit the gorgeous country house Woodstone Manor. When they arrive there, they soon find it is dilapidated and hilariously riddled with ghosts of people from throughout American history who died on the property and are tied to the house. The ghosts appear as they did at their time of death until they are able to reach the afterlife. To complicate matters further, Jay cannot see or hear the ghosts, but Sam can, after previously having a brush with death.
Ghosts Star Teases More Action in Season 5
The death of Sas may be a long-running mystery in Ghosts that could possibly soon get answered, but fans have already been guaranteed a wild ride in Season 5 by one of the show’s lead actors. Ambudkar recently teased his character of Jay’s new storyline in Season 5.
“I think that will lead into, if there’s an avenue, into this whole idea of why he signed with a publicist, why he’s trying to get the restaurant going, why he inadvertently sold his soul to the devil. You know what I mean? He’s got a lot of stuff to get through in the next two seasons,” Ambudkar teased.
He also teased a potentially grim fate for his character: “I don’t know if our boy Jay is gonna stay alive. We’ll have to see. I mean, Elias is coming for him. Sam now has a chance to protect Jay. So do the ghosts. He’s gone from somebody who joins the madcap scheme or gets caught up in other people’s craziness. He’s the one, now, who’s made the huge mistake with literal life and death consequences. So the whole house has to protect him.”
The first four seasons of Ghosts are available for streaming on Paramount+.
