Gerry Turner focuses on future after cancer diagnosis and split with Theresa Nist

After a rare cancer diagnosis and a divorce from Theresa Nist, Gerry Turner is staying hopeful as The Golden Bachelor star makes plans for the future.

Gerry Turner is keeping his focus on the future during these challenging times.

Fans have been sending their sympathies to the Golden Bachelor leading man ever since he opened up his rare cancer diagnosis. He found out in June, weeks before his split with Theresa Nist, that he has bone marrow cancer.

While Turner focuses on his health, the television personality has shared details about his divorce and his plans to move on.

While speaking to People, he admitted the diagnosis did impact the couple’s decision to split. However, it was also made because of the distance.

His recent claims challenge Nist’s earlier comments to the magazine where she said his diagnosis had nothing to do with the divorce.

She said: “If that was something on his part, maybe, I don’t know. But no, that didn’t factor into ending the relationship. Part of it was the distance, but that wasn’t the only part. That’s really all I will say.”

Despite what seems like a messy break up, Turner is staying positive about the prospect of a love connection.

“I am absolutely, 100% still looking for my person.,” he shared. He said The Golden Bachelor taught him that he needs to say “open to possibilities” and the idea of “hope.”

“If there is a message that came out of the show, it is that you’re open to possibilities and that you have hearts and you have hope and you maintain humor in your life. I still want to find my person.”

He realized that his diagnosis makes dating more difficult but he’s refusing to look at the situation as a negative thing.

Turner shared: “I think it would also be a confirmation if a person accepts me in the situation that I’m in, it would be pretty terrific.”

The television personality did admit that he doesn’t see marriage in his future, specifically because of the “legal entanglements.”

However, he would “entertain the conversation with someone who was the right person.”

“If they felt strongly that they really wanted to be married, I would certainly consider that,” he said.

Turner has learned from past mistakes and revealed he will be selective this time around. He will only be dating someone from the Midwest.

He explained that he wants “someone close” so he can see her “on a daily basis to learn if they’re the right person and them learn about me, if I’m their right person.”
