Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon spinoff show has its official title, as the multi-cam sitcom continues the overall Big Bang Theory franchise at CBS.
Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon spinoff show has its official title. The new project was first announced in January from the team of Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre and Young Sheldon co-creators Steve Holland and Steven Molaro. The multi-cam comedy will focus on the characters of Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister, as portrayed by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, putting the focus on their popular Young Sheldon characters.
Paramount Press Express confirms that the spinoff will be called Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. It will air in the Young Sheldon timeslot on CBS on Thursdays at 8 PM ET. Though a premiere date has yet to be announced, it’s confirmed to debut later this year.
The Title Is A Play On Big Bang Theory History
How Will The New Young Sheldon Spinoff Handle Established Canon?
In the original series, with Jerry O’Connell playing Georgie, it was mentioned that Sheldon’s older brother had been divorced twice.
The title could be read as an acknowledgment of Georgie’s marital history, as it was depicted in The Big Bang Theory. In the original series, with Jerry O’Connell playing Georgie, it was mentioned that Sheldon’s older brother had been divorced twice. When the spinoff was initially announced in January, it was specified that the producers could potentially take liberties with the Big Bang Theory canon.
For instance, if Sheldon appears in the prequel, he could be played by Armitage, as opposed to Big Bang‘s Jim Parsons. The same reportedly held true for other characters like Mary, who would be played by Young Sheldon‘s Zoe Perry, not TBBT’s Laurie Metcalf. This has not been confirmed by the producing team, however. In comments to TVLine, Osment remarked: “I’m hoping that I’m the ex-wife and the new wife. People get divorced and remarried. Why can’t she be both?”
Focused on the Young Sheldon married characters as they attempt to raise their family, the new series has the added benefit of appealing to new viewers while also being in a unique position to further illuminate The Big Bang Theory. It’s one of the reasons why Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage can succeed among CBS’ forthcoming scripted series, which include a Matlock reboot, the comedy Poppa’s House, the Sherlock-connected drama Watson, and NCIS: Origins.
