By The Big Bang Theory’s finale, everything had turned out pretty perfect for Sheldon Cooper. He won the Nobel Prize, married the love of his life, and even his friends were content with him finally recognizing their tireless support throughout the years. However, the fates of his family members were a lot less sunny.

By Young Sheldon’s finale, these fates seemed markedly worse. By then, viewers had grown to love Missy and Georgie, but their canonical futures remained dark. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’s Connor subplot proves that Georgie has been a good influence on the McAllister family as a whole and that he has improved relations between Connor and his parents. While this makes Georgie’s Big Bang Theory feud with Sheldon sadder, it also makes the fate of his marriage tragic. Georgie proving to be a force for good in the McAllister home illustrates that Georgie and Mandy really are good for each other, making their preordained separation sadder than ever.
As Georgie’s impact on the family proves the pair’s breakup shouldn’t be permanent, one fan theory now seems more likely. While they unavoidably have to break up, they don’t have to stay broken up and Georgie and Mandy’s eventual reunion seems increasingly hopeful as the show highlights the things that made their relationship work, rather than its fatal flaws. Still, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is only beginning, and there is plenty of time to explain why the pair weren’t as good for each other as they seemed before the events of The Big Bang Theory.
