Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage BTS Photo Reveals Work Is Beginning On Young Sheldon Spinoff

Work has started on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage as revealed in a new behind-the-scenes image for the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff sequel. The Young Sheldon finale coincided with the end of Sheldon’s childhood in Texas, but that doesn’t mean that the Coopers’ story is also finished. CBS has found a way to continue taking advantage of The Big Bang Theory prequel’s success by launching an offshoot that would follow Georgie and his new life with Mandy and their daughter, Baby Cece. Weeks after its parent show wrapped, work has begun on what could be CBS’ next comedy hit.

As shared on Instagram by producer Steph Spetrino, she and presumably her co-workers are back on the Warner Bros. lot for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Check out the image below:

How Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Is Different From Young Sheldon

None Of The Coopers Will Be Series Regulars in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage

Meanwhile, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will have the same format as The Big Bang Theory, which is a multi-camera project.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is slated to debut as part of CBS’ 2024-2025 fall TV schedule. It will take over Young Sheldon‘s original 8pm/Thursday timeslot. Essentially, the upcoming Montana Jordan and Emily Osment series is just a continuation of its parent series. As confirmed, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will pick up a few months after George’s death and subsequent funeral. Unlike previous theories, the couple will also stay in Medford, but they will live on the other side of the town with the McAllisters, explaining why Mary, Missy, and Meemaw won’t be series regulars.

The biggest difference, however, between Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is its format. Sheldon’s origins story had a single-camera set-up, which means that it wasn’t filmed in front of a live audience. This allowed the show to lean into dramatic moments. Meanwhile, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will have the same format as The Big Bang Theory, which is a multi-camera project. It will be shot with an audience and will also have divisive canned laughter. This will have an impact on the narratives that the upcoming sequel offshoot will have, including how it handles its humor.

Despite this major change, it’s worth noting that many of the creatives behind Young Sheldon are also involved in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Some of them also worked in The Big Bang Theory. Considering the success of the first two sitcoms from the Chuck Lorre co-created universe, it should be a reassurance of the quality that can be expected from the third project in the franchise.
