Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage co-creator Chuck Lorre teased the challenges that the titular couple must face in the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff. Leading the cast are Montana Jordan and Emily Osment as they reprise their respective roles as Georgie and Mandy Cooper.
During a recent interview with TV Insider, Lorre and Jordan shared what to expect from the first installment of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which is still currently in production. They revealed that things would get “very hectic” for the young couple. “He’s 19, and he dropped out of high school. How smooth can it be?” Lorre said. “It’s a bumpy ride, but the bumps are comedy if handled correctly. There’s dramatic moments as well, because they will face inevitable obstacles to staying together.”
Emily Osment and Jerry O’Connell unite in a fun video ahead of the premiere of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Jordan added, “It’s going to be very hectic. There’s a lot of things that come with being a young parent and with Mandy’s mom not being the easiest to deal with.” Jordan has been playing the role of Georgie Cooper since he was 14 years old in Young Sheldon, which had just concluded its seven-season run last May 16. In the final season, he and Mandy got married in a civil ceremony in order to stop their respective Baptist and Catholic mothers from fighting over which church their wedding should take place. They were last seen together attending Sheldon’s unusual baptism.
Georgie & Mandy Spinoff Brings Back the Cooper Family
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is created and executive produced by Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland, the creative team behind The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Joining Jordan and Osment as series regulars are returning cast members Will Sasso as Mandy’s father Jim McAllister and Rachel Bay Jones as Mandy’s overbearing mother Audrey McAllister, along with new cast members Dougie Baldwin as Mandy’s brother Connor and Jessie Prez as Ruben. In addition, it has also been confirmed that the Cooper family, including Zoe Perry’s Mary Cooper, Annie Potts’ Meemaw, and Raegan Revord’s Missy, will be returning for guest-starring roles.
Young Sheldon co-creator Steve Holland reveals why one key character didn’t make an appearance during the final season.
The official logline for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage reads, “The sequel follows Georgie and Mandy as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.” In a previous interview, Osment admitted that she has been trying to get Jerry O’Connell, who played the adult version of Georgie in The Big Bang Theory, to join the spinoff. “I run into Jerry O’Connell so much in my neighborhood, who of course plays older Georgie, and I’m trying to figure out how to get him back on in some way. Maybe he’ll be the narrator,” she said.
