Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 is confirmed to resurrect a forgotten The Big Bang Theory tradition that Young Sheldon totally ignored. Dubbed TV’s number 1 comedy, the second franchise spinoff is a vital part of CBS’ 2025-2026 programming. Thus far, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has already released 3 episodes, and for the most part, they have all been solid offerings.
That said, it seems like the best is yet to come for the family comedy drama. Admittedly, the cancelation of Young Sheldon was divisive, and there was skepticism about the ability of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage to fill the spot that its parent series left. Objectively, the new show is doing well, especially since it isn’t shackled by The Big Bang Theory canon the way Young Sheldon was.
Despite that, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 is bringing back a The Big Bang Theory tradition of releasing Christmas-themed episodes — something that Young Sheldon didn’t do in its 7 seasons on the air. Per the official Instagram of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s Writers, the spinoff sequel will see Georgie, Mandy, and Ceecee celebrating the holiday for the first time on-screen. This marks the first Christmas episode in The Big Bang Theory franchise in 8 years. Its last one dates all the way back to 2017’s The Big Bang Theory season 10, episode 12, “The Holiday Summation”. It’s unclear why Young Sheldon never really dabbled with the holidays, especially considering Mary’s devotion to being a Christian. More curiously, the prequel did celebrate other holidays, such as Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Previously, co-creator and showrunner Steve Molaro explained why they skipped a Christmas episode for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1. He revealed that they wanted to focus on its Thanksgiving offering, which happened to be a very emotional one as it was the first major holiday since George’s death in Young Sheldon. This year, however, it’s safe to say that they switched things up, prioritizing the December holiday.
What makes Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2’s Christmas episode so exciting is that it opens a lot of narrative opportunities for the series. Firstly, it could be the reason that Sheldon finally comes home for the first time since the Young Sheldon finale. The boy genius still hasn’t appeared in the new show.
Secondly, it could also gather the Cooper family again, which has become a rarity because of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s shift in focus. Thirdly, it’s a great time to put Baby Ceecee at the center of its narrative, since Christmas is for kids. Molaro and his collaborators clearly don’t have a scarcity of options.
