General Hospital’s Risa Dorken Reveals the Surprising Origin of Nurse Amy II

Nurse Amy wasn’t only back for this year’s Nurses Ball, but her portrayer Risa Dorken also joined General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard on his podcast, where she revealed who her character truly is.

A Lot Of Drama

During her first episode of State of Mind since 2020, Dorken not only reintroduced herself, but who she plays on GH. “I play Nurse Amy… the second,” she revealed. “There’s a lot of drama; complications with me being the second Nurse Amy.”

When Benard (Sonny) admitted he didn’t know any other Nurse Amy, Dorken explained. “Shelley Kepler originated Nurse Amy, the gossip. I’m not a recast of her, but I’m like a tip of the hat; like a nod to her, there’s also a gossiping Nurse Amy.”

A Star Is Born

Benard also complimented Dorken’s musical talent, and she noted how many Nurses Ball opening numbers she’s performed in. “This was my seventh Nurses Ball in nine years,” she said. “I’ve been in the opening number seven times.”

Dorken’s latest Nurses Ball performance was to the song “Holiday” by the Bee Gees, and also featured some breakdancing from Sawandi Wilson (Isaiah). (Find out where the opening number ranked with this year’s performances).

Earlier this year, Amy appeared at the opening of the Dr. Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Care Center wing, which also served as a tribute to the late Leslie Charleson.

Dorken also updated her co-star on her mental health journey and navigating her bipolar diagnosis over the last five years.
