‘General Hospital’ Casting Shock: Jonathan Jackson Departs Role of Lucky Spencer

‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal surprising news. Johnathan Jackson, who plays Lucky Spencer, is leaving the show.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Jackson Returned In August 2024

It’s been close to a year since Lucky’s latest sting on GH. Producer Frank Valentini said in a statement,

“We were so glad Johnathan was able to reprise the role of Lucky, even if it was for a limited time.”

He concluded,

“We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Johnathan to return.”

In June 2024, it was confirmed that Jackson would be returning to GH for an extended visit. He was officially returned in August 2024.

Lucky’s current run ends next week. It was revealed in the June 5th episode that a heartbroken Lucky would be leaving Port Charles after the love of his life, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), turned down his marriage proposal.

Jackson started at ‘General Hospital’ in 1991. He’s the son of the infamous Luke Spencer (Tony Geary) and Laura Collins (Genie Francis), and his sister is Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Breuning).

After winning three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actor, he left the soap in 1999. In 2009, Jackson returned to GH as Lucky.

Two other actors played Lucky, Jacob Young and Greg Vaughn, who plays Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives.

The scene in which we had a sneaking suspicion that Jackson was leaving was hard to watch, as fans of Lucky and Elizabeth have been rooting for the couple to get together.

The two characters admitted that while they would always love each other, Lucky wouldn’t be happy settling down to domestic life with Liz in Port Charles.

Lucky asked Liz to travel the world with him. However, she cited her existing commitments. Lucky stated that it would be too difficult to stay in Port Charles if he couldn’t be with Elizabeth.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Lucky And Liz Were Each Other’s First Loves

Liz and Lucky first got together in 1998 after Liz was raped. Lucky helped Elizabeth work through her trauma, and together they found her rapist.

The pair fell in love, but Lucky was presumed dead in 1999. A year later, a new Lucky emerged, played by Jacob Young, and he had been brainwashed by Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers).

By the time Greg Vaughn took over the role, Liz and Lucky were married twice. They had a son, Aiden Webber (Colin Cassidy).

Over the years, Lucky and Liz would go on to break up and make up several times. Lucky recently returned last year to help his sister, Lulu, who had been in a coma for four years.

Lulu’s liver was compromised, and Lucky assumed he could save her with a liver donation. However, it turned out that all his adventures in Africa rendered his liver not viable for Lulu.

Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was a match for Lulu’s liver and saved Lulu’s life. Sadly, Sam was murdered at the hospital by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) afterward.

Despite his best efforts to convince Liz to marry him, she gently declined. We were very disappointed and sad to see Jackson exit the canvas once again. Hopefully, next time, Lucky will manage to get Liz to know that they belong together and always have.
