The Big Bang Theory co-creator Chuck Lorre’s new show starring Leanne Morgan officially sets a release date.
Per Deadline, Lorre’s next sitcom, Leanne starring comedian Leanne Morgan, has been given a July 31 release date. The multicam sitcom series will follow the titular Leanne after her life is thrown into chaos when her husband of 33 years abruptly leaves her for another woman. Per the series’ official logline, “Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.” Apart from its leading star, Leanne is set to feature appearances from a variety of guest stars including Ryan Stiles, Annie Gonzalez, Hannah Pilkes, Graham Rogers, Blake Clark, Celia Weston, Kristen Johnson, and Algerita Wynn.

Leanne was originally announced back in April 2024, at which time Lorre released a statement reading, “If you’ve seen even ten seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand up then you know what a unique comedic force she is.” Lorre continued singing Morgan’s praises and hyping up the series, writing, “The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and I’m so excited to bring this story to Netflix.”
This Has Been Morgan’s Dream
Morgan herself added, “I’ve dreamed of this since childhood, and I can’t believe it has come true! When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom. It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world!?”
Morgan made her silver screen debut later this year in the role of Gwyneth in writer-director Nicolas Stoller’s feature film, You’re Cordially Invited. The film stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon as Jim Caldwell and Margot Buckley, a widowed father and wedding-planner who are forced to share an island venue after their respective events are double-booked on top of one another.
While the pair are initially antagonistic towards one another, they form an unlikely bond that helps them reconcile their own personal and interpersonal problems alike. You’re Cordially Invited was met with a relatively lukewarm response upon its release, with the film currently holding a 47% “Fresh” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 102 critical reviews. Despite the generally negative reviews, You’re Cordially Invited topped the Prime Video streaming charts for the week running from January 30 through February 5.
