Raegan Revord, the teen star known for playing Missy Cooper on the wildly popular “Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Young Sheldon,” is confirming their gender identity.
Revord, 17, opened up about how important representation in film and media can be, in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as nonbinary or queer, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is so cool, I see myself in you,'” Revord told the outlet. “It’s so crazy to have that experience where I’m now that person and there might be a kid somewhere who’s like, ‘Oh my god, I see myself in you.'”
They continued: “That’s such an insane thing because I was in that kid’s shoes at some point in my life.”
Revord, who starred alongside titular character Iain Armitage in “Young Sheldon,” is adding author to their list of hyphenates. This year, the actor released their debut novel, “Rules for Fake Girlfriends,” which chronicles a charming queer love story.
“Being able to contribute to the ever-growing, amazing collection of queer literature is such an honor, and very exciting,” Revord told USA TODAY earlier this month.
They managed to pull together the manuscript in the rare downtime between takes on “Young Sheldon,” fulfilling a childhood dream of authorship, Revord revealed.
“I would have my computer hidden on set, and then whenever they said ‘cut,’ I would bring it out, write … as quick as I could, then stash it right before they said action,” the actor said. “That’s how I wrote probably half my book.”
