The final episode of Young Sheldon might be over but luckily for us, there’s a new upcoming spin-off show in the works called Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, which should be released early next year. The show will focus on Georgia and Mandy and the script for the pilot episode has already been written.
But what exactly will the series be about? Whilst we don’t know too much information about the show yet, some hints have been dropped about how soon after Young Sheldon the series will be set, and whether any returning characters will feature.
The show will feature Sheldon’s brother Georgia and his wife Mandy and focus on the two starting their married life in Texas together, along with their baby.
How soon after Young Sheldon will the spin-off take place?
According to the showrunner Georgia and Mandy’s First Marriage will start around one month after the end of Young Sheldon where Sheldon set off for Caltech and the family was still recovering from the death of George. He explained: “It’s pretty much contemporaneous. It’s still 1994 and it’s Georgie and Mandy with her family and raising their baby in Texas.”
Which returning cast members can we expect to see again?
Young Sheldon’s executive producer Steve Holland explained: “I think, certainly, the characters in the world of Young Sheldon still exist in this world. They’re still around and can make appearances and drop by.”
Ian Armitage who plays Sheldon himself told TVLine that he’d be “honoured” to appear in the spinoff. He explained: “If I got a call to go back, that’d be so much fun. I’d be honoured to. I’m also just excited to get to sit back on my couch with some popcorn and watch their show because they’re so good. But I could totally see myself getting in the khakis again, putting on the old penny loafers and bow tie, and going back out on the job.
“It’s going to be so fun to see Montana and Miss Emily are both so funny and so talented, and they play off each other so well. They’re very contrasting characters… and I love them together so much.”
But Raegan, who plays Sheldon’s sister Missy isn’t so sure she’ll make a reappearance anytime in the future. She admitted: “I’m not sure. I mean, if Young Sheldon had gotten more seasons, I would have 10,000 per cent signed on to do more. But now that it’s over, I’m also kind of excited to see what else is out there and try different things. Something dramatic would be a lot of fun.”
However, two cast members from Young Sheldon have been confirmed to appear in the new spinoff series, with Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones reprising their roles as Mandy’s parents. I can’t wait to see what new and returning characters pop up!
