From Reagan Family dinners to Fresh Starts: What’s next for the ‘Blue Bloods’ cast?

For 14 seasons, Blue Bloods captivated audiences with its blend of gripping crime drama, moral dilemmas, and heartfelt family dynamics. Since its 2010 debut, the series followed the Reagan family—an Irish-American dynasty deeply embedded in the New York City Police Department. At the helm was Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, played by the iconic Tom Selleck, whose leadership and quiet wisdom grounded the show through more than a decade of shifting cases and personal trials.

The heart of the series was always the Reagan family spanning generations from the principled and tough former commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) to Frank’s children: brilliant and determined Erin (Bridget Moynahan), hotheaded but loyal Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), and earnest, duty-bound Jamie (Will Estes). Their bond, often tested by the weight of the badge and their own personal convictions, offered viewers a window into a family that valued justice, truth, and loyalty above all.

When CBS announced in 2024 that Blue Bloods would not return for a fifteenth season, the news stunned fans and even the cast. Despite strong ratings and a loyal fan base, the decision marked the end of an era. Tom Selleck, who anchored the show from the beginning, didn’t hide his disappointment.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” he admitted in an October 2024 interview with TV Insider. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

He went on to express his disbelief that such a consistently top-performing show was coming to an end. “If you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

What made the cancellation even harder to process for Selleck was how deeply ingrained Blue Bloods had become in his routine. “It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” he said. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Donnie Wahlberg Reveals if 'Blue Bloods' Stars May Show Up on 'Boston Blue' - Parade

But even as Blue Bloods ended its historic run with a moving series finale in December 2024, new opportunities quickly emerged both for the cast and for the franchise itself.

Just two months after the finale aired, CBS announced that a new spinoff series, Boston Blue, was greenlit and set to expand the Reagan saga in a fresh direction. The series will follow Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan as he accepts a new post with the Boston Police Department. With Boston Blue slated for a fall 2025 premiere, it signals not just a new city, but a new chapter for fans eager to stay connected to the Reagan legacy.

While Wahlberg is officially returning to the role that defined his post-New Kids on the Block acting career, many of his fellow cast members have voiced interest in making guest appearances as their beloved characters. At the same time, several have already begun diving into new ventures, both on and off screen.

Donnie Wahlberg

Wahlberg isn’t just reprising Danny in Boston Blue—he’s expanding his presence in the true crime genre as well. After six seasons as the solo host of Investigation Discovery’s Very Scary People, Wahlberg is now teaming up with his wife, Jenny McCarthy, for a brand-new version of the series called Very Scary Lovers. The couple, known for their onscreen chemistry and real-life love story, brings a fresh dynamic to the program, exploring the dark psychology behind infamous criminal couples. Balancing this with his role in the new CBS drama proves Wahlberg isn’t slowing down any time soon.

Bridget Moynahan

Following her acclaimed portrayal of Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, Moynahan has quickly taken on new and exciting opportunities. Not only was she honored with the prestigious JFK National Award in early 2025, but she was also cast in Original Sound, a high-concept project generating early buzz. Known for powerful performances in films like I, Robot, Coyote Ugly, and the hit series Sex and the City, Moynahan is also confirmed to return in Boston Blue—and will step behind the camera to direct an episode. Her transition into directing marks a new evolution in a career defined by intelligence and strength.

Will Estes

As Jamie Reagan, Estes brought quiet intensity and emotional depth to Blue Bloods—a role that capped off an already impressive career. Before joining the series, Estes gained recognition in projects like U-571, American Dreams, and the poignant TV film The Dive from Clausen’s Pier. While he hasn’t announced his next project just yet, fans are eagerly watching what’s next for the actor whose star continues to rise. Given his range and likability, another compelling lead role could be just around the corner.

Len Cariou

Veteran actor Len Cariou was a cornerstone of Blue Bloods, playing family patriarch Henry Reagan with equal parts grit and grace. Before his 14-season run on the show, Cariou already had a celebrated career with roles in Into the Storm, Damages, and Brotherhood. Now, at 85, Cariou is showing no signs of slowing down. In July 2025, he officially joined the cast of American Classic, a drama series from MGM+ where he steps in to replace the late Harris Yulin. It’s a role that promises to showcase the legendary actor’s enduring power and charisma.

Tom Selleck

Though the end of Blue Bloods left Selleck reeling, fans can take comfort in knowing that he’s returning to one of his other iconic roles. Currently, he is developing a new installment in the Jesse Stone movie franchise a series of made-for-TV films based on the novels by Robert B. Parker. The project will mark another chapter in Selleck’s storied career, which includes unforgettable performances in Magnum, P.I., Three Men and a Baby, and his beloved guest appearance on Friends as Dr. Richard Burke. As always, Selleck brings timeless screen presence to everything he touches.

Vanessa Ray

Ray, who played Eddie Janko-Reagan, joined Blue Bloods in Season 4 and quickly became a fan favorite. Before that, she gained widespread attention for her role as Charlotte Drake on Pretty Little Liars. With her talent for balancing vulnerability and toughness, Ray’s next move is highly anticipated though no official projects have been announced, insiders suggest she’s in talks for several major TV roles.

Marisa Ramirez

As Detective Maria Baez, Ramirez brought warmth, wit, and a fierce sense of justice to the series. Her chemistry with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny made her an essential part of the team and fans are eagerly waiting to see if she’ll reunite with him in Boston Blue. Prior to Blue Bloods, Ramirez starred in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Body of Proof, and remains a versatile performer with a loyal fan base. Though she’s remained quiet about future plans, many believe a Baez return is not only possible—it’s inevitable.
