Actor Jason Antoon Shares Sad Update After Unexpected Cancellation of ‘NCIS Hawai’i’
Jason Antoon shared an update with fans one year after NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled by CBS.
In a video clip posted to X, the actor gave fans a look at the now-vacant Hawaii Film Studio lot where the popular series was shot for three seasons. In the video, weeds could be seen growing all around the fence and empty buildings that are situated on the 7.5-acre lot.
The studio, located at the foot of the Diamond Head crater, per Hawaii Film Office, was once the home to shows such as Lost, Hawaii Five-0, and Magnum P.I., but has been vacant since NCIS: Hawai’i ended in April 2024.
Antoon, who played tech genius Ernie Malik on all three seasons of the now-defunct CBS drama, was devastated by the sudden cancellation last spring.
“Mahalo to our amazing cast and crew. There will never be another ohana like this one. Even though we are all shocked and disappointed, I will cherish our time on the island,” he told Parade in an interview.
CBS explained the unexpected cancellation during a press briefing last May, citing production costs in relation to ratings, as well as the network’s fall 2024-25 schedule, for the decision.
“It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters, per Variety. “Ultimately, we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow. We have to evaluate the financials and the performance overall, and we make tough decisions.”
Reisenbach also confirmed that there was no chance that the decision on NCIS: Hawai’i would change.
In addition to Antoon, the Hawaii-based police procedural also starred Vanessa Lachey, Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson, and Kian Talan.
