From ‘Hotel Hell’ to Heaven? What Happened to the Massachusetts Inn Gordon Ramsay Tried to Save

Gordon Ramsay cannot stand poorly-run businesses, whether it’s a restaurant or a hotel.

In 2025, the Scottish chef and television host is tackling bad restaurants from behind the cameras on “Secret Service,” where he surveils and critiques poor practices through hidden cameras and secret diners.

However, Ramsay doesn’t just tackle restaurants. You may be familiar with “Hotel Hell,” a successor to his culinary makeover show “Kitchen Nightmares,” where Ramsay tries to help struggling hotels find their footing, despite the many disagreements, walk-outs and screaming matches that take place.

Here is the Massachusetts inn Ramsay visited on “Hotel Hell.” Let’s see if his changes held up.

Vienna Restaurant & Historic Inn, Southbridge (CLOSED)

Where: 14 South St., Southbridge

About: The Vienna Restaurant & Historic Inn was a Austria-themed inn run by a husband-wife duo living in the inn itself. In the episode, the employees allege that they have not been paid on time and that one of the co-owners is emotionally and verbally abusive. Ramsay is tasked with fixing up this inn, despite the difficult domestic situation.

What happened: This episode aired on May 31, 2016. The Worcester Telegram reported in February of 2018 that ownership of the property at 14 South St. in Southbridge, Massachusetts, had changed hands from the owners in the episode at a foreclosure sale. A fire had damaged the inn in mid-November of 2017. No notable business has replaced the inn at its address. A Zillow listing said that it sold for $350,000 on July 30, 2024.
