From Firehouse to Friendship Goals: Kinney & Spencer Share the Cutest Chicago Fire Moment Yet

Kinney and Spencer first stole our hearts as firefighters Severide and Casey, Chicago Fire’s most iconic buddy duo.

Many bonds have been built within the walls of Chicago Fire, but few compare to the camaraderie between Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The firefighters forged a beautiful friendship on the job, but the bromance is also echoed behind the scenes between Spencer and Kinney.

Sure, Spencer’s Matthew Casey may no longer have a post at Firehouse 51, but once you’re a member of the One Chicago family, you’re in for life. Spencer has returned to guest star on Chicago Fire several times, and fans have loved seeing Severide and Casey reunite.

Their friendship is perhaps best encapsulated in this video from an archived Chicago Fire press event. In the clip (watch here), Spencer said, “So we just finished the panel. I think we’re all done here.Taylor, did you have a good time?”

As the camera panned to Kinney, he didn’t say a word. Instead, he just strolled over to Spencer and gave him a sweet smooch on the cheek. Awww!

“I think that says it all,” Spencer quipped, letting out a big laugh.

Inside Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer’s Fire-forged friendship

Severide and Casey were hands-down one of the best buddy duos on Chicago Fire, shaping a friendship that continued even after the cameras stopped rolling.

Spencer and Kinney made many happy memories while filming Chicago Fire and enjoyed many of the same local festivities their characters did when the workday was done. In 2012, Spencer and Kinney attended a Chicago Cubs game together for Firefighter Appreciation Night. While Kinney enjoyed throwing the game’s opening pitch, Spencer had the honor of giving a stunning performance of the national anthem alongside an actual Chicago firefighter.

In 2019, the duo joined several One Chicago stars on an outing to a Chicago Bears game. Spencer and Kinney donned Bears gear for the fun-filled night, hugging each other tight as the whole lineup beamed for the photo. Their characters (Casey and Severide) enjoyed many cigars while chatting about sports, so it’s fitting that Spencer and Kinney also enjoy soaking up the Windy City sports scene.
