Danny Reagan is clocking in for duty. Recently taking to social media to share the latest update about his Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, series star, Donnie Wahlberg, revealed that the new team was sitting down for their first table read. The actor is set to reprise his role from the beloved series as Detective Danny Reagan, a part that he played for well over a decade on the fan-favorite CBS procedural. Now, he’s in Toronto, Ontario, where the team will begin shooting the next chapter.
Sharing his gratitude on his Instagram stories, the actor posted a skyline view of the city at night and wrote “A new day. A new city. A new opportunity. A new adventure. The same gratitude.” over the top. The next day, he snapped a shot of his spot during the table read in which viewers could see not only Wahlberg’s seat marker but also that of his new co-worker, Sonequa Martin-Green. With an on-theme blue heart emoji, he wrote, “A new chapter.”
Meet the Names Behind ‘Boston Blue’
Although their names and weren’t featured in Wahlberg’s post, we’re going to go ahead and presume that the rest of the faces of the cast is also taking a seat to read through the material together. That would include Ernie Hudson (The Basketball Diaries), Gloria Reuben (ER), Maggie Lawson (Psych), and Marcus Scribner (black-ish). The series will follow Wahlberg’s character as he branches out from the comfort of his family and his long-held position as a member of New York City law enforcement and relocates to the northern city. There, he’ll work alongside a new partner — Martin-Green’s Detective Lena Silver.
While it may be a fresh start and some new faces, things won’t be completely different from what Danny has been used to back home, as Detective Silver is a member of a prominent family of law enforcement officers, just as Danny once was. Reuben will appear as Mae Silver, the family’s matriarch and the Boston District Attorney, while Hudson will portray Lena’s grandfather, Reverend Peters, who leads a Baptist congregation at one of the city’s historic churches. Lawson’s Sarah Silver is Lena’s stepsister who works as the Boston PD Superintendent, while Scribner’s Jonah is the younger brother of Lena and Sarah and is just getting his career started as a rookie cop.
Behind the scenes, the pilot episode is set to be directed and executive produced by Golden Globe, Emmy, and NAACP Award recipient, Anthony Hemingway, who holds credits on such projects as The Wire and Power.
