Fire, Med, and P.D. Collide: NBC’s Big Changes for the One Chicago Event

Big changes are coming to NBC’s One Chicago lineup on January 29 as the highly anticipated crossover event reshuffles the usual broadcast schedule. Typically, fans can count on Chicago Med kicking off Wednesday nights, followed by Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.. However, the crossover will reverse the order of Med and Fire, with Chicago Fire leading the charge at 8 p.m., followed by Chicago Med at 9 p.m., and Chicago P.D. wrapping up the night at 10 p.m.

This isn’t the first time NBC has altered the broadcast order to accommodate a One Chicago crossover. The storylines often demand flexibility to align the interconnected plots across the three shows. It makes sense for Chicago Fire to take the lead this time, as the action begins with the firefighters responding to a catastrophic event.

What to Expect from the Crossover

The crossover centers around a high-stakes emergency that tests all three teams. According to the official logline, “When a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, Chicago’s first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It’s the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.”

Chicago Fire handles the immediate rescue efforts, setting the stage for the crossover. Victims will then be taken to Chicago Med, where the hospital staff faces the challenge of treating the injured. Meanwhile, Chicago P.D.’s Intelligence Unit will dig into the cause of the explosion, potentially uncovering a larger, more sinister story.

“Putting together what is essentially a three-hour action movie is an incredibly ambitious task requiring complete coordination across our writers, casts, crews, and producers, along with help from the city of Chicago,” said Anastasia Puglisi, Executive Vice President at Wolf Entertainment and co-executive producer of One Chicago. “We’re thrilled to have the best talent in every department to meet this challenge, reinforce the #OneChicago brand, and provide our fans with a unique and compelling viewing experience.”
