[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Tracker Season 2 Episode 4, “Noble Rot.”] Tracker introduced a messy storyline between reward-seeking Colter (Justin Hartley) and lawyer Reenie (Fiona Rene) in the first episode, and since then, it’s been a will-they-won’t-they question—but at the same time, neither of them are waiting. Colter has had other relationships, and Reenie brought a friend (Michael Rady’s Elliot) along to a retreat in the latest episode.
At the end of “Noble Rot,” Reenie remarks that she can actually count on Colter, especially on the job, and he says he hopes Elliot knows how lucky he is. Does that close the door on everything that’s happened between Reenie and Colter, at least for now?
“He knew that I was open and available and interested, and he was very closed to that. And then even in the first episode, he walked away? So I think at the end of Season 1, when she decided that she wasn’t as available as she was, that really changed the relationship between the two of them,” Rene explained to TV Insider. “I think our relationship is so strong now that we really want the best for each other. I think Colter is really aware of what he can give right now. And I think he knows that Reenie needs more and he wants that for her because I think deep down, he loves me too, and you want the best for the person you love, not just what you want. So I say, the door is closed … [with] an ellipsis.”
“I could have closed the door, but there was no lock. And I also had a credit card that I could have stuck in there and opened it really quickly, and it was an Amex platinum card. You know what I mean?” Rene added with a laugh. Sounds exactly like Reenie!
And Elliot, could he have stayed? Considering he made it through the retreat and got involved in the case, he might have deserved it. “I think you’re right,” the star said. “I think there’s some potential there.”
While searching for a missing CEO, Colter finds a foot, and Rene points to it as her favorite shot of the episode. “I was like, ‘Who did you cut that from?’ Because the props department killed it with that,” she shared. “It was so cool. They built this whole cave on the stage.” So we shot half of it on stage in this fake cave, and then half of it was shot outside on location, and the foot looks so real, and it’s actually in the mud and the water, and Justin’s down there, getting dirty and dragging—I mean, I love gore, and I love horror. This is my season, baby. So to be able to see a prop like that, I was like, wow. That’s probably one of my favorite scenes.”
Tracker is the second show you can see Rene on this fall; she also stars in The Lincoln Lawyer, though her character was killed off in the second season finale and appears in flashbacks in the third season.
“How do you feel about her messy background?” Rene asked us. And when we pointed out that the best characters are messy, she said, “That’s what you want to hear. That’s why I was so excited to see Reenie get messy because it’s like, when does she lose control? Does Colter? These characters who always have it together, you’re like, what does it look like when you don’t? Because we know you don’t.”
