FBI’s New Spin-Off “CIA” Unveils Star-Studded Cast — Featuring Major Stars from Chicago Med & Chicago P.D.

In a major bombshell for the One Chicago universe, NBC and Dick Wolf have officially announced the cast for their highly anticipated new spin-off series “CIA” — and it includes two big names from the Chicago franchise.

The new drama, titled FBI: CIA (working title), will follow an elite team of CIA operatives working on high-stakes international missions, blending intelligence work with intense undercover operations. The series is set to premiere in the 2026-2027 television season.

The Cast Reveal

Two familiar faces from the One Chicago family have been confirmed for major recurring roles:

  • Nick Gehlfuss (Chicago Med) will play Dr. Ryan Halstead, a brilliant but haunted CIA medical officer and profiler. This marks the first time Gehlfuss is stepping away from his longtime role as Will Halstead to join a new Wolf Entertainment project.
  • Tracy Spiridakos (Chicago P.D.) has been cast as Agent Elena Voss, a tough, no-nonsense CIA field operative with a mysterious past. Spiridakos, who played Hailey Upton for several seasons, is making her return to the Wolf universe in a completely new capacity.

Both actors are expected to appear in multiple episodes per season, with the possibility of full-time roles if the spin-off performs well.

The lead role of the CIA team supervisor will be played by a major Hollywood name (still under wraps), while the rest of the ensemble includes several fresh faces and recognizable supporting actors from the FBI franchise.

Why This Is Huge

This marks the first official crossover between the One Chicago and FBI universes in terms of recurring cast members. Dick Wolf has long hinted at expanding his empire beyond Chicago and New York, and FBI: CIA appears to be the big leap into international espionage territory.

Fans are especially excited about the potential for crossovers. Many are already hoping for guest appearances from Chicago P.D. characters or even a full-blown event that connects the Windy City with the new CIA team.

Nick Gehlfuss shared his excitement: “I’m thrilled to step into this new world while still staying within the Wolf family. Ryan Halstead is going to be very different from Will — darker, more complex, and operating in a much more dangerous arena.”

Tracy Spiridakos also commented: “After Hailey Upton, I was looking for something fresh and intense. This role gives me that. I can’t wait to see how Elena Voss fits into this new universe.”

Production on FBI: CIA is expected to begin this summer in Washington D.C. and various international locations, with the series slated to air on NBC in fall 2026.

With two beloved Chicago stars making the jump, this new spin-off is already generating massive buzz. Will we see more One Chicago actors crossing over in the future?

One thing is certain — the Wolf Entertainment universe just got a lot bigger… and a lot more dangerous
