‘FBI’ Will Return on a New Night on CBS After Spin-Off Cancellations

The 2025-2026 TV season brings major changes for the FBI franchise. Following the cancellation of two shows, the list was whittled down, leaving the flagship series as the only one to return for a new season. Even more changes are coming this fall with CBS’ announcement that FBI will now move to Mondays from Tuesdays. The new Tom Ellis-led FBI spin-off, CIA, will join the flagship series. While FBI Tuesdays are no more, Dick Wolf Mondays have become a thing with the introduction of a new offbeat comedy, DMV. The comedy will air at 8:30 pm and the two FBI shows will kick off at 9 pm ET to 11 p.m. ET. Tuesdays have been taken over by the number 1 franchise in the world, NCIS.

CIA, starring Tom Ellis, “is a one-hour crime drama centered on two unlikely partners – a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer (Ellis), and a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law. When this odd couple are assigned to work out of CIA’s New York Station, they must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil, finding that their differences may actually be their strength. CIA is a universe expansion of the FBI series,” reads the show’s official description. Dick Wolf, David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman & David Chasteen and Peter Jankowski serve as executive producers with former FBI: Most Wanted’s showrunners Hudgins picking up the duty once again. Eriq La Salle is set as director and executive produce of the first episode.

‘FBI’ Wraps Up for Season 7 in Two Weeks

Meanwhile, FBI Season 7 continues airing on Tuesdays on CBS before the season finale on May 20. In next week’s episode, “when two IRS special agents are stabbed to death in Brooklyn, the team is thrown into an investigation that leads back to the resurgence of the online conspiracy community of Duke Ducoyle (Jere Burns), their suspect from a previous case.” In the season finale, “after Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) narrowly escapes a calculated assault on a secret FBI office, the team discovers a rogue terrorist group has infiltrated the FBI. Unsure of whom to trust, the team must work in the shadows to unmask the culprits threatening the sanctity of the New York field office,” reads the official logline.
