FBI Season 7, Episode 21 Hints at Shocking Exit for Beloved Long-Time Character!

FBI season 7, episode 21, titled “Devoted,” may have set up an exit story for one long-time character. “Devoted” is the second episode in FBI season 7 to feature the team working to stop violence caused by followers of a fictional online guru named Calvin. Although the original Calvin’s website and social media have been shut down, the murder of two IRS agents links back to followers of a new version of Calvin. Followers tend to commit violent acts an then respond with, “I do not accept your authority” when the FBI attempts to question or arrest them.

Part of this arc includes one member of the FBI season 7 cast of characters being stalked. Isobel (Alana de la Garza) encounters a bearded man in a coffee shop who blocks her way until a colleague asks if everything is all right. Isobel ignores this incident and focuses on proving Duke Decoyle (Jere Burns) is again behind the attacks on the IRS. However, Decoyle threatens her when he is re-arrested at the end of the episode.

Isobel’s Stalking Story May Come To Its Climax In The FBI Season 7 Finale

Decoyle’s Threat Might Have Something To Do With An Exciting Plot

The trailer for the FBI season 7 finale shows that someone will try to assassinate Jubal — and Isobel believes that one of the agents she supervises is part of the plot against him. While there are many reasons that someone would want to murder a leader of a division of the FBI, it’s likely that this plan is related to Decoyle’s followers, who are virulently anti-government and believe the FBI and other agencies are illegitimate usurpers of power. Additionally, the person who tries to kill Jubal might have intended to hurt Isobel but caught the wrong agent in their crosshairs.

Additionally, the season finale marks the last time that Isobel’s stalking story could be addressed before FBI season 8 begins in the fall of 2025. Since this story has been going on throughout season 7, it is likely it will come to a head during the finale. Isobel’s appearance in the trailer includes her having a wound on her head, which reinforces the idea that someone will be violent toward her during this episode.

Isobel Was Already Considering Retirement Before Being Stalked

This Incident Could Make Her Decide To Do It

Isobel had been considering retirement from the FBI after she hit her 20-year milestone, which made her eligible for a pension. However, she decided it against it after initially weighing her options. When she made this decision, she told her husband that she didn’t think it was time to leave yet. That said, the story opened the door to Isobel potentially retiring at the end of the season. If so, the stalking issue might help her decide to do it sooner rather than later.

A traumatic event, such as almost dying or almost losing an agent who is important to her, could push her closer to deciding that it’s time to walk away from her job at the FBI.

Isobel’s statement that she wasn’t ready “yet” suggested that she would change her mind in the near future. A traumatic event, such as almost dying or almost losing an agent who is important to her, could push her closer to deciding that it’s time to walk away from her job at the FBI. Although she has stood up to those who have threatened her in the past, if the stalking gets violent enough, it might make her decide it’s time to retire.

What Isobel’s Retirement Means For FBI Season 8

This Event Would Lead To A Realignment of Roles

Isobel is responsible for supervising more than one team. Both the Fugitive Task Force and the New York Field Office report to her, and she is in charge of hiring and firing decisions for these teams. Thus, if Isobel were to retire, it would leave a large gap in leadership in New York. This isn’t necessarily problematic, but it will require the procedural to move some staff around and possibly hire new people.

Hopefully, the New York Field Office will fill all vacancies quickly if Isobel retires instead of repeating the mistakes made while trying to find a proper partner for Scola.

If Isobel retires, it is likely that Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) is promoted to her old position. This would mean that a new person has to be hired to take over his old role in FBI season 8. Conversely, someone else could be promoted to Jubal’s old position and a new agent would have to be hired to take that person’s place. Hopefully, the New York Field Office will fill all vacancies quickly if Isobel retires instead of repeating the mistakes made while trying to find a proper partner for Scola.
