After six pulsating seasons, the final ever episode of the first and favorite FBI spin-off, FBI: Most Wanted, aired last night, leaving fans with a tear in their eye and a hole in their viewing habits. Season 6, Episode 22, “The Circle Game,” was a fitting ending to such a great procedural, with the Fugitive Task Force doing what they do best and tracking down a rogue government operative as a terrorist threat rises.
The finale was a tearjerking blast, wrapping up dramatic tension, such as the relationship between Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten) and her father, and providing explosive action throughout. As the final moments of the series tick over, a celebratory party moves to Remy (Dylan McDermott) and Abby’s (Susan Misner) new restaurant, where Remy receives a surprise birthday treat, before delivering a surprise of his own as he announces his retirement, something teased throughout the second half of the season. In emotional fashion, Remy announces Sheryll (Roxy Sternberg) as his successor to the role of Team Leader.
However, the neat tying of such plot threads does beg the question: What would a seventh season have looked like? Well, thankfully, in an interview with TVInsider, showrunner David Hudgins explained exactly that, revealing, “Remy would have re-upped for another year as Task Force leader and the cliffhanger in the season finale would have been a big ‘white whale’ fugitive who gets away — only to be captured in the following season.” The promise of Remy retaining his Team Leader status is at least comforting, if not bittersweet, knowing just how many chaotic missions were still left to be tackled with the Fugitive Task Force.
Another ‘FBI’ Spin-Off Was Also Cancelled
Not only has FBI: Most Wanted been cancelled at CBS after six seasons, but attempts to massively reduce the network’s budget has seen FBI: International also hand in its badge after four seasons. This, surprisingly, comes despite the green light having been given to a new FBI offshoot in the form of FBI: CIA, set to feature Lucifer star Tom Ellis in the lead role. Thankfully, fans of the franchise will experience at least some continuity, as the main FBI series has been secured for another three seasons, with Dick Wolf‘s franchise not ready to go anywhere just yet. What will the future hold for FBI? Only time will tell.
