‘FBI: Most Wanted’: Alexa Davalos does not return in season 5 of CBS drama

TO EXCLUDE, TO EXPEL:

With two strikes in Hollywood, it’s unclear when CBS’s FBI: Most Wanted will return for a fifth season, but when it does, it won’t feature one of the series’ main cast members, Alexa Davalos.

This news will likely come as a surprise to fans as there was no hint in the Season 4 finale that Davalos’ character, Agent Kristin Gaines, might be leaving the series from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

The exit may come as a surprise to many on the show, including Davalos. I heard she was told by a producer on set that she wouldn’t be returning after filming the final scene of Season 4 a few months ago. According to multiple sources, the conversation – and Davalos’ departure – was amicable.

Davalos, who joined the procedural drama at the beginning of Season 3, plays Kristin Gaines, an FBI Special Agent and former Office of Naval Intelligence officer who was a member of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force. When she joined, the team was led by Jess LaCroix, played by Julian McMahon, who left in Season 3 and was succeeded by Dylan McDermott as the team’s new leader, Remy Scott.

In the Season 4 finale, Gaines is part of the team that helps Remy (McDermott) catch his brother Benji’s real killer, who is trying to escape to Canada by train.

It’s unclear how Gaines’ departure will be explained in the upcoming fifth season, which has yet to be written because of the WGA strike, or whether Davalos will be invited back to wrap up the character’s story hers or not.

Gaines initially joined the team as a replacement for Kenny Crosby, who was written out in the Season 3 premiere due to the departure of original series regular Kellan Lutz.

Like Wolf Entertainment’s other procedurals, FBI: Most Wanted has undergone cast changes, often for creative or financial reasons – or a combination of both.
