‘FBI’ Season 8 Casting Shake-Up: 2 Stars Out, 1 In, and 5 Returning Favorites

FBI Season 8 is on the way, and there is already a big casting shakeup happening ahead of its October premiere.

The hit CBS series, created by Dick Wolf and Craig Turk, centers around the Special Agents of the New York City field office’s criminal division as they take on some of the biggest cases in the city.

The show was given a three-year order from CBS in 2024, meaning the series is back not only for Season 8 in this year’s upcoming fall schedule, but also Season 9 as well, which will air during the 2026-2027 fall schedule.

After the conclusion of Season 7, fans are wondering exactly when Season 8 is coming, and who will and won’t be returning to the show.

Missy Peregrym as Special Agent Maggie Bell – RETURNING!

Missy, who has been with the show from the beginning, is expected back for Season 8. Find out why fans were worried about her fate last year!

Jeremy Sisto as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine – RETURNING!

Jeremy, who has been with the show since Season 1, is expected back for Season 8.

“Yeah, to know that some people that were vetted, and they vet FBI agents a lot. To think that multiple of those people have turned out to be anti-government is probably going to be handled in the infrastructure. They vet pretty hard, they’re going to vet even harder after this. So listen, we’re going to reignite a trust in the organization, into the FBI, all the agents and analysts. There’s going to be something to address that from the top [down]. I’m not sure if Isobel makes it through this crisis. But I’m sure she and the ADIC, or whoever’s at the top, will figure out some way to figure out something. See how I did that?” he told Parade of Season 8.

Zeeko Zaki as Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan – RETURNING!

Zeeko, who has been with the show since Season 1, is expected back for Season 8.

John Boyd as Special Agent Stuart Scola – RETURNING!

John, who has starred in the show since Season 2, is expected back for Season 8.

“Yeah, so we find out at the beginning of the episode that Syd’s been picked up by some higher-ups that were super impressed, and they pull her out of there and here Scola is left to fend for himself again, but at this point, he’s ready to do it. He’s down for the cause and I get to match up with OA and Maggie a little more, which is great. Who doesn’t want to get to be their partner for a little bit? So he’ll be OK,” he said of Syd leaving.

FBI Season 7: Everything You Need To Know

Alana De La Garza as Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille – RETURNING!

Alana, who started as a guest star in Season 1 before becoming a main cast member in Season 2, had quite a finale at the end of Season 7.

Although the FBI team was victorious in a gunfight, when they returned to their office, Isobel began slurring her words and stumbling. She then fainted, and Jubal announced that she had no pulse. Isobel was left seemingly dead, although we don’t know that for sure yet.

Alana has not yet said anything about her future in the franchise. After the finale aired, she said to TV Insider about Isobel’s fate: “Literally, you have to tune in to see. It is a legit cliffhanger. It was very exciting and very fun to play, unlike anything I’ve ever played before for sure. So that was fun.”

Jeremy Sisto added that Isobel’s apparent death would be “a huge blow to the office and to Jubal and to obviously the show.”

Her character mentioned the possibility of retirement in Season 7, which has historically been a sign of characters signing off from countless TV shows over the years. It’s is not yet clear whether FBI Season 7’s Isobel death was real or not.

Katherine Renee Kane – NOT RETURNING

While most of the cast is just presumptive at this time, we do know one person who definitely won’t return in Season 8.

Katherine Renee Kane left the show during Season 7, and she won’t be back to reprise her role as Special Agent Tiffany Wallace in Season 8.

“It was time to look towards new creative endeavors. I’m excited for the future and wish the show all the best,” she told Deadline in a statement.

Find out how she was written off the show.

Lisette Olivera – NOT RETURNING

Lisette Olivera is also leaving the show.

Lisette played aa Behavioral Analyst named Syd Ortiz on the drama in Episode 4 (“Doubted”) this season. It turned out that her character did not fit in well, Deadline reports, and adds it was “not a reflection of [Lisette‘s] work.”

As she’s only 25 years old, the role may have been miscast. As Deadline put it, “she played too young for an FBI Special Agent.”

Law & Order: SVU alum Juliana Aidén Martinez has joined as a series regular for the police drama’s eighth season.

News broke earlier this year that after only one season, Juliana would be exiting the L&O world, where she portrayed Detective Kate Silva.

It’s unclear who she’ll portray on FBI, but she will be a series regular on the show, per Deadline.

Stay tuned as we wait to see who else will be returning, who might be joining and leaving ahead of Season 8.

FBI returns with Season 8 at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, October 12!
