In an interview with ScreenRant about FBI season 8, Sisto explained his ideas for Jubal’s future in the already-renewed season 9. The actor pitches the idea of exploring his character’s family more, particularly his daughter, while also explaining how the series allows writers to bring their experiences to the characters as well. Check out what Sisto said below:
ScreenRant: You mentioned playing this character for 8 seasons now. The show’s already been renewed for season 9, so is there any kind of story you’d like to explore for him that you haven’t gotten to see yet?
Jeremy Sisto: Yeah, there’s so much. There’s a daughter who’s not a pain at all, so she never comes into the story, so we could see her more. A lot of what consumes Jubal, which I think is a valuable story, is trying to hold down this kind of job and be a good father.
But I’m open to a lot. That’s kind of how you have to be in these shows. What I tell the writers is that I want them to be able to bring their own personal experiences to the storylines. I can tell when that is in the writing, and then I’m able to find my way through from there. So, I’m not too intent on any specific storyline being told, but I’m always excited when writers choose to put a lot of themselves into something. Being the guy to bring that to life gets me up in the morning.
This includes his alcoholism, having been ten years sober up until he got worried about his son, Tyler, who had leukemia. Luckily, he ended up being alright, but the relapse inspired Jubal to go back to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. The show has yet to properly introduce his daughter, Abigail, something the actor would like to see more of.
Given that FBI season 9 has already been confirmed, and it sounds like Sisto will be coming back to his role in the forthcoming season, there will be plenty of opportunity to further explore Jubal’s character. Alongside his personal life, the series could include some more cases that hit close to home for him, especially as a father who wants to see his children protected.
It’s possible he could also end up with ties to FBI‘s upcoming CIA spinoff, which will focus on a joint task force between both organizations. While crossovers between the forthcoming series and the existing one haven’t been confirmed as of writing, it’s another way to expand Jubal’s role across the broader procedural franchise.
