Farmers protesting in Paris are “inspired” by Jeremy Clarkson

French farmers say they share many of the same challenges as British farms, which are explored thoroughly in Jeremy Clarkson’s hit show Clarkson’s Farm.

Farmers blocked major highways to Paris on Monday (29th January) as part of a protest against poor pay, cheap imports and excessive regulation on environmental protection.

According to reports French farmers have said they are inspired by Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm, which demonstrates the challenges facing British farmers.

“Everything he explains in it is why we are here today. You may have left the EU, but we share many of the same problems regarding all these environmental rules,” farmers are quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Clarkson’s Farm humorously explores Jeremy Clarkson’s journey as a “trainee farmer” – and has been a huge hit with the general public and farmers alike for showing the myriad difficulties facing farmers, and the poor remuneration.

His farm is even named ‘Diddly Squat’, as a reference to how much money he makes.

Protesting farmers said they need a French celebrity to do a similar show, Daily Mail reports.

Hundreds of tractors formed a blockade of major roads to Paris, while similar demonstrations took place across the country. The aim is to stop food deliveries to supermarkets, to stress that farmers must make a living from their trade.

The protests in France come as similar actions are being taken elsewhere in Europe, including Belgium, Germany and Romania.
