It’s always nice when a couple can withstand the test of time on a soap. On Days of Our Lives, some couples that have faced the odds yet remained together include the legendary John and Marlena and Steve and Kayla. While fans hope for another supercouple to emerge on the show, there are some possibilities. Alex and Stephanie seem to have a love that’s real and might be able to defy the odds. Another potential power couple is Johnny and Chanel, that is, if she can help her man get past the most distressing hurdle he’s faced yet.
She’s His Rock
Chanel’s real-world alter ego, Raven Bowens, spoke with Soap Opera Digest about this latest hurdle for Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel: The search for EJ’s shooter, with Johnny as the prime suspect. On top of that, Johnny put the kibosh on the couple’s adoption plans because he felt he didn’t want to be anything like his father, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel).
Bowens explained that Chanel needs to be the one to make Johnny realize that just because EJ raped Sami (Alison Sweeney), thereby conceiving Johnny, he’s nothing like his father. “In being that rock and just reassuring him with words of affirmation,” she explained, “I feel like she’s trying everything that she can to pump him back up and to help him see who he really is.”
They Must Defend One Another
DAYS’ Bowens further explained that while she’s enjoyed some good love triangles in the past, it’s a refreshing change to have the couple’s issue not be from someone trying to divide them. “I love when we get a new storyline, when it’s juicy and it’s all of the things that are soapy, but just in a different way,” she remarked.
And the whodunit of EJ’s shooter is going to put the couple to the test. This is especially true if Johnny ends up going on trial for it. This can only strengthen them as a unit. Bowens explained what it will take for them to overcome the adversity together: “They have to defend each other. They have to stick by each other.”
