Explosive Drama Awaits: One Chicago Gears Up for a Blockbuster Crossover

Fans of NBC’s One Chicago universe have something monumental to look forward to: the first crossover event in five years is officially in the works for Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. According to a report by TVLine on November 13, the much-anticipated crossover will air later this season, with a gripping storyline centered around a catastrophic explosion in a city office building. This large-scale disaster will demand the expertise of Chicago’s fire, police, and medical teams, bringing together the beloved characters from all three shows.

The Return of the One Chicago Crossover

The One Chicago crossovers have long been a highlight for fans, blending action, drama, and teamwork across the three series. The last event occurred in 2019 and revolved around a biological terrorism threat, showcasing the seamless collaboration between Firehouse 51, Chicago P.D., and Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

The hiatus in crossovers was attributed to various challenges, including the logistical difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. With these obstacles behind them, the franchise is finally ready to revive the tradition, promising an unforgettable night of action-packed television.

A Look Back at the Last Crossover

The previous crossover, titled “Infection,” tackled a biological weapon storyline inspired by an unusual source—One Chicago creator Dick Wolf’s personal experience. As Chicago Fire executive producer Derek Haas revealed to Forbes in 2019, the idea stemmed from a conversation during a dinner where Wolf recounted a foot injury that nearly became infected.

“Dick said, ‘I want to do a biological weapon story, like a flesh-eating bacteria,’” Haas shared. “Then he added, ‘What if it happens at a Bears game?’ That’s when we came up with the idea of a tailgate, where characters from all three shows encounter a victim with mysterious symptoms.”

The result was a high-stakes, heart-pounding storyline that set the bar high for future crossovers.

What to Expect This Season

While details about the upcoming crossover remain under wraps, stars from each show have been dropping tantalizing hints about their respective seasons.

Patrick Flueger, who plays Adam Ruzek on Chicago P.D., expressed excitement about the show’s twelfth season. “We’ve wrapped up certain storylines and kicked off something new. It feels like we’re hitting the nail on the head right out of the gate,” Flueger told Us Weekly. “You’re watching characters you know and love continue to adapt and grow. I’m really proud of the episodes.”

Meanwhile, Hanako Greensmith, who portrays Violet Mikami on Chicago Fire, teased fans with what’s to come in Season 13. “It’s fresh, intense, and shocking,” Greensmith said, highlighting new beginnings and jaw-dropping moments that promise to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
