Exclusive Update: “The Rookie” Showrunner Drops Optimistic News on Tru Valentino’s Future

Tru Valentino’s Aaron Thorsen could return to The Rookie in future seasons. First introduced in season 4, episode two, Aaron was a falsely imprisoned murder suspect, who was eventually acquitted of all charges. In an attempt to bring about justice and to clear his name, Aaron quickly found his way to the police academy and became a brilliant officer. Unfortunately, Aaron has not appeared in season 7, and there has been no word about a return for The Rookie season 8.

In an interview with Collider, showrunner Alexi Hawley explained that Aaron could be reintroduced if the story calls for it. When asked about the potential return, Hawley explained that there is a significant likelihood that Aaron will reappear later in the show’s run, but it will not come “in the short term. Because the show is about rookie officers, Hawley believes that rookies need to continually be cycled through the system, which means that Aaron’s reintroduction will be delayed. Check out his quote below:

Yeah, no, no, definitely, for sure. I mean, these are the hard things you do as a showrunner, and in the writers’ room, is to try and keep the storytelling moving forward and making hard choices about what we’re going to focus on and what we’re not. That being said I love Tru and I have loved Aaron’s storyline, and so, yeah, I think we’ll definitely see him again down the road... I mean, I don’t want to make you feel like it’s going to be in the short term necessarily. But, yes, no, look, I agree. And again, it’s the embarrassment of riches of having so many great characters to service, but also feeling like we need to, I mean, it’s called The Rookie. We keep needing new rookies along the way, and you just have to navigate it.
