In this week’s episode of S.W.A.T., Officer Dominique Luca is back, and Hondo enthusiastically declares, “He is back in the building!” But what’s weighing heavily on Luca’s mind?
In the episode titled “Escape,” airing Friday at 8/7c on CBS, Hondo and the team are on the hunt for three female fugitives, including a serial killer poised to unleash chaos after a prison transport van overturns. Meanwhile, Deacon grapples with balancing work and home life as Annie returns to her job.
As for Luca, played by Kenny Johnson, he has promised his daughter Kelly (played by Johnson’s real-life daughter, Angelica) some driving lessons. However, he’s worried that his approach might risk pushing her away, a concern detailed in the sneak peek above.
For those following S.W.A.T., Luca is one of two original cast members set to make an early exit during the show’s 13-episode farewell run. Jim Street, portrayed by Alex Russell, recently decided to take the lead at 30-Squad in Long Beach after their commander died in the line of duty.
Johnson’s departure storyline is slated for the April 5 episode, which will air following several weeks of March Madness preemptions.
Showrunner Andrew Dettmann expressed his commitment to giving every character a proper sendoff this season. “With Season 7 being the final 13 episodes, we aimed to ensure that everyone received their moment,” Dettmann told TVLine. “The episodes focused on Luca and Street will truly reflect their character evolution.”
Dettmann added, “I’m really excited about what we have planned for Luca and Street. We want to make sure no character feels underserved as we approach the end.”
